Don’t miss the wild updated value and pricing we may see with the new Bretonnian Army Launch Box for Warhammer the Old World.
Games Workshop said they will not do a big starter box for Warhammer The Old World. However, both the Bretonnians and Tomb Kings will be getting their own Army box sets at launch. So now that GW has revealed the Bretonnian army box, it’s time to start estimating the price and how much you could save on it!
Remember, though, this is based on recent releases (taking comparisons from the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness box as the ‘Age of Sigmar’ equivalent). So, as nothing is confirmed until they say it is, don’t get too hyped or mad at the value.
Bretonnian Army Launch Box
Raise your banners to the Lady with the Kingdom of Bretonnia box, which contains 76 miniatures. The resplendent new Lord on Royal Pegasus can be built as a Duke or a Baron. They’re backed up by a lance formation of 12 Bretonnian Knights of the Realm, 36 Bretonnian Men-at-Arms, 24 Peasant Bowmen with two defence stakes, three Pegasus Knights, and a Kingdom of Bretonnian Transfer sheet with 176 transfers.
First off, The Age of Darkness box for Horus Heresy retails for $310. That box has 54 miniatures compared to the 76 in the Bretonnian Army Box. With the model count inside, we are shocked that the retail price is $255 for the Bretonnia Army Box. Perhaps they are being generous on the price to hype up Warhammer The Old World (TOW)? Let’s hope so, as this contains a 1,250-point army.
Another thing to remember is that there are Warhammer Fantasy units still for sale in the Warhammer Store that may shed some light on how they will price the upcoming TOW kits.
In their Bretonnia army construction article, Games Workshop said armies would be 2,000 points. So, both the Bretonnian and Tomb Kings army boxes may be a good step towards collecting a whole army.
Bretonnian Army Launch Box Value & Pricing:
Now that we have seen the pricing for the launch of Warhammer the Old World, we have a better idea of the values for all these units.
- New Lord on Royal Pegasus $65 (based on new CoS Cavalier-Marshal
- 12 Bretonnian Knights of the Realm $120 ($60 for six based on recent cavalry, could be $70 each)
- 36 Bretonnian Men-at-Arms $120 (it looks like boxes of 16, so it could be a little more when looking at the Dreadspears, which only give 10 for $40)
- 24 Peasant Bowmen $80 (Based on current Darkshards, does have two more minis per box, but hopefully not more expensive)
- 3 Pegasus Knights $60
- Warhammer The Old World Rules $70
- Templates and dice Added value
Total MSRP $515 Total value vs $255 box price: $260 (Versus ~$250 for Age of Darkness Starter Box, which is shockingly similar)
Thoughts on the Value
This is actually pretty close to the value for the Age of Darkness box. However, the prices could be a little bit all over the place. If you look at GW’s site, they currently have units of 10 Dark Elf Spearmen (on square bases in the picture) for $40 for 10. So there’s a chance some of these are even more expensive (but let’s hope less). With this being almost identical value to Age of Darkness, we think the values are pretty close.
Again, many of these are older kits, but judging from GW’s current pricing, they don’t seem to care too much about the model’s age for units. They do for characters, but even super-old units seem to cost about the same as brand-new units now. Either way, at $255, this box has a ton of value!
