Let’s hear a little from them about the project, then jump into the pledge levels, factions, and stretch goals!
The Warpath Universe first graced gaming tables back in 2011, and has since been the setting for many fantastic tabletop experiences – sci-fi sports games (Dreadball, Overdrive), futuristic dungeon crawlers (Project Pandora, Star Saga), tactical skirmish games (Deadzone), and full-blown strategic wargames (Warpath, Firefight). Pledges for Epic Warpath start from just £59 for a hard plastic army and rules pack, making this an extremely affordable and enjoyable miniatures game for players to dive into.
If you’re wondering about how the game will play, it sounds like the rules will be somewhat simple but hard to master (which is what you want in a game).
Players will experience epic science-fiction battles, fighting across distant alien worlds with their vast armies of infantry and heavy vehicles. Objectives are dynamically generated, rather than the game being limited to a small number of set scenarios.
In the game, secret actions are issued to each unit (to move, attack, etc) and the player chooses the order in which they activate those units. The game uses a mix of D8 dice (greater range than a D6, and therefore reduces the need for ‘layers’ of checks to create variety) and command dice (which generate points that can be spent on tactical and faction-specific strategic orders). In summary, the rules are clean, fast, and easy to learn, but challenging to master.
The Factions
There will be four factions to start; plus if things do well, we expect them to have more!
The Asterians are guardians of balance in the universe, and step in with their drone armies to deploy high-tech violence when required to preserve the wider peace.
The Forge Fathers are an ancient and proud race, who believe that they were the first advanced civilization to emerge in the galaxy. As such they believe that the universe, and its resources, are rightfully theirs to use. Their ‘Star Realm’ is one of the few independent powers that has been unbowed by the GCPS, and has instead forged a temporary alliance…for as long as the humans prove useful.
The Enforcers are the faceless superhuman army of the Council of Seven – humanity’s secretive ruling body, comprised of representatives of the largest corporations seeking to advance their interests on the galactic stage. Their Enforcers are few in number, and yet devastatingly effective. While in many situations they may be an option of last resort (a metaphorical sledgehammer to crack a nut), when it comes to a Plague outbreak they are the first response – deployed swiftly to enact their dreaded Containment Protocols. Even as their ships get underway, the target world is already being quietly deleted from navigation services and all connected digital records…
The Plague are a mysterious army of horrors, which rise in the wake of planetary infections. Their exact origins are unknown, and they are largely confined to a blockaded region of space (widely known as the ‘death arc’). However, occasionally a Plague vessel gets by the Asterian patrols and a new infection begins that must be swiftly contained.
Pledge Levels
This isn’t the cheapest option, but for the price, you get so many miniatures and two factions, meaning you can split it with a friend! You can add on accessories like dice to make a full game and board of terrain.
This is a great option to start a whole battle group, as you get four factions included.
This gets you a ton of terrain, all the game essentials, and tons of miniatures! Plus you can also get the STLs if you just want to print everything out.
Last but not least, you can pledge at the cheapest level and just get yourself a single faction.
Add Ons
You’ll probably want to add the rulebook and the dice, but you can also lock in mats, terrain, and much more too.
Stretch Goals
Not only will this not break the bank, but you get to choose your miniatures as well, and you’re not locked into a single faction. Considering this got funded in literally 26 minutes, we expect them to hit their goal and add a fifth faction to the game.
If you want to play epic games with amazing miniatures and not break the bank, this new version of Warpath might just be perfect!
