With her new rules here from Broken Realms, don’t miss our unboxing and build of Morathi, The Shadow Queen, and see how big she is!
This week we are revisiting an incredible mini getting some rules updates! (Check out the post here to see her new rules) With Broken Realms upon us, it only seemed right to go back and help with the build of this giant mini. We are seeing what it takes to get Morathi ready for the tabletop as Rob goes over the kit, compares it to other models, and tells you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building her!
We are going to show you everything including the sprues, bits, and of course, size comparisons. That way you can decide if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars and possibly starting a new AoS army. Let’s go!
Morathi, The Shadow Queen: Unboxing & Build

The Morathi kit is quite impressive. It retails for $130 but does contain two Morathi models and is loaded with detail. Let’s jump into it!
Instructions and Sprues
The High Oracle form looks pretty easy to build and only takes up one page of stuff. The base looks really cool and textured, but let’s see how the Shadow Queen looks to build.
The serpentine coil has a lot of parts, to say the least! They give you a bunch of great instructions though, so if you follow them closely it shouldn’t be too hard. The wings are also three different pieces, but not too bad in terms of how they build. Lastly, they even break the head down into a bunch of pieces. It’s all well laid out, but just a lot to glue and look at!
While there are a lot of pieces, when you look at the sprue nothing looks too spindly. That’s a relief! The detail is just great on every piece and they made the wings big enough so you can really get some great paint schemes on there!
Completed Mini
Here she is in her fully assembled glory. Rob was truly impressed with how clever Games Workshop was with her design and assembly. The mini looks amazing overall and is such a striking leader for your Daughters of Khaine army! There will be some mold lines to cut off but not a crazy amount when you consider the size. The main issue is you cannot build this in subsections to paint. Because of how it all goes together, you basically have to build it all at once, the only thing you can really do is keep it off the base.
When you sit down to work on this kit, go slow! Dry fit everything, follow the instructions closely, and it will go fairly easily. Just be careful when you are putting the foundation of the tail together. The section can end up off-kilter and affect the rest of the serpent coil that leads into Morathi’s torso. If this does happen, do not worry as Morathi’s robes do drape over the seam lines when you attach them. The one major drawback to this kit is that it cannot be painted in sections then assembled. Another issue you will encounter is that the model will not be flush when you connect to the scenic base detail. It will be leaning and has her tail, the pillar, and the weight of the model itself holding it in position.
Size Comparisons
Alarielle is much bigger all around, both height and width. That makes sense then why they give you two models in this kit for the same price.
She’s about three times as large as her smaller self, nothing too crazy there.
She is about the size of a Lord Cellestan and Tree Ancient.
Overall, not terrible to build for such a big and beautiful mini. Just take it slow and don’t rush any step.
