If you’ve been wondering what Krondys and Karazai can do, GW gave us a taste today by revealing some new Stormcast Dragons rules!
The new minis are pretty giant and they will have to deal some serious damage on the battlefield to match that size. We just saw a bunch of rules for Gobsprakk yesterday, so we’ll have to see how the new big monsters stack up against one another.
Warhammer Community just unveiled rules for both dragons as well as their flame attack. Krondys is a powerful mage who loves to shut down enemy wizards whereas Karazai is a little crazier and wants nothing more than to smash people in close combat and burn them with vengeance and fire.
Let’s jump into the rules.
New AoS Stormcast Dragons Rules Burn Through the Enemy
Each prince fights according to their personality. Karazai is a jaws-and-claws kind of dragon, while Krondys is more measured, preferring to control the battlefield and shut down Wizards. Individually they’re going to be incredibly powerful, but together they’re going to make a terrible mess, from range, in close quarters, and with magic.
Both dragons use blazing tempest, an 18” torrent of “scouring flame” that’s precisely as fun to get caught in as it sounds. The target unit suffers between one and six mortal wounds.
Not having to roll to hit or wound is pretty nice but there’s also a chance this does a single mortal quite often. First, you have to roll a D6 to see how much damage you even do, then you have to either roll a D3 or D6 to further check your damage. So it could be pretty sweet, but more often than not this will do 1-3 wounds realistically.
New Krondys AoS Rules
Krondys is a powerful Wizard, casting two spells per turn from the Lore of the Storm. What’s more, he has a unique spell all to himself – Atavistic Tempest – which gives him a range of powerful debuffs to enemy units, reducing their Hit Rolls, Attacks, Rend, or Save Rolls. He also wears the Regalia Fulmentarus, a present from his pal Sigmar which can add up to 3 to his casting rolls. And as you’d expect from a gigantic elder Draconith, he’s pretty tasty in a scuffle to boot.
Adding three to your cast rolls is quite crazy and will basically make his spells cast all the time. Atavistic Tempest is a serious debuffing spell to enemy units and you get to choose how you want to do it, so this should be super powerful.
Karazai AoS Rules
He can also use his Fires of Vengeance ability to grow in destructive power as the game continues. For every Hero or Monster he kills, his melee weapons get one additional attack each for the rest of the game. If he destroys units with 3 or more Wounds per model, he can add one to his charge rolls for the rest of the battle.
Once he gets to killing, he just gets stronger for the rest of the game. So be sure to get him stuck in early and often.
Given his combat prowess, these bonuses are going to stack. His calamitous tail attack rolls as many dice to hit as there are enemy models within 3” – perfect for landing in the middle of three damaged units and giving them the beans.
If you can get him in the middle of a bunch of units, this attack is going to deal some insane damage. Especially with how big of a base this has (we’re thinking 160mm) you should be able to get off a ton of attacks.
