Giant Swathes of Horus Heresy Solar Auxilia Plastic Kits & Launch Box Revealed!

The Solar Auxilia are humanity’s finest mortal troops, and they’re coming to the battlefield with a range of new plastic kits, starting with the massive Solar Auxilia Battle Group army box.

New Tactical Command

The battle group is led by a Line Command Section, in which an Auxilia Troop Master barks orders over the din of battle, while four capable Veterans act as their command staff – hoisting the banner, relaying comms, and protecting their charge from harm.

The Tactical Command looks like it will have a ton of options, and again, if you want something for your army to stand out, these are perfect!

New Tanks

Solar Auxilia Plastic KitsThere will be three new tanks this time around in plastic, and they all look great!

It seems like the Leman Russ will only come with one main loadout in the standard kit, but you can also grab the upgrade for all the extra weapons in a kit for the assault version. The Strike Tank variant has four different turret weapons: a battle cannon, a vanquisher cannon, a gravis lascannon, or a gravis autocannon.

The Leman Russ Assault Tank adds even more turret options to your armored squadrons, ramping up explosive firepower with a massive demolisher cannon and volkite macro-saker. For a heavier armored presence, the Malcador Heavy Tank boasts a ferocious armament, including a main turret cannon and heavy bolter sponsons.

Solar Auxilia Plastic KitsThe Malcador just looks incredible and will help you blast through those pesky space marines.

To safely ferry troops around the battlefield, the Solar Auxilia uses the Dracosan Armoured Transport, which can carry 20 troopers and mount a wide array of weapons.

We saw the mini version of this in plastic for Legions Imperialis, but it’s nice to get the bigger version for Horus Heresy. Its central mount fits a multi-laser as standard, but it can be swapped for other guns, including autocannons, heavy incinerators, and volkite culverins.

There are two 10-man Solar Auxilia lasrifle sections, which can be combined into a single larger unit of 20 if you prefer bigger formations, and whose durable void armour makes them surprisingly resilient troopers for regular, unaugmented humans.

If you want to grab some of the new plastic minis (or bolster your Imperial Guard force), the new box will come with tons of plastic!

Additional units are also arriving in plastic, including the elite Veletaris Storm Sections, who deploy with powerful volkite calivers and can trade their gun for a vicious storm axe.

Solar Auxilia Plastic KitsAll of the rules for this army are already available in the Liber Imperium army book. Sadly, there are no plans to write rules specifically for using these miniatures in games of Warhammer 40k. However, you can always use these as great alternatives or “counts-as” models for your Imperial Guard!

Plastic Solar Auxilia Basilisk & Medusa

Here is the latest on the new plastic Solar Auxilia kits from Warhammer Community.

In the 31st Millennium, if you’re not a genetically enhanced super-soldier, you have to rely on prosaic considerations such as ‘weight of fire’ and ‘strength in numbers’. The Solar Auxilia understand this – which is why they have so many armoured vehicles. For instance, the Basilisk and the Medusa.

If you’re planning on playing the Solar Auxilia, you need as many tanks as you can get! What kind of human is fighting Space Marines without tanks?

Plastic Solar Auxilia Basilisk

Sharing a chassis, these two workhorse medium tanks demolish things at long and close range, respectively. The Basilisk mounts an earthshaker cannon that puts out denture-rattling Strength 9 hits at extreme range as an Ordnance weapon with the Barrage special rule.

A dual kit is always nice as you get way more bits, and if you can magnetize this, you can get way more value out of your kit! The Basilisk looks pretty awesome and since it’s in plastic, it should be a much better experience to build.

The Medusa, on the other hand, prefers to get up close with the Strength 9 medusa mortar, another Ordnance weapon, this one with the Rending special rule. Neither alternative is especially pleasant for anyone who finds themself on the operative end of either barrel.

If you’re a little braver, you can get up close and personal with the Medusa and smash the enemy with ordinance weapons.

Crew DetailsPlastic Solar Auxilia Basilisk 3

This is a dual kit which makes one self-propelled gun in the pattern of your preference, but there are loads of options to customise it to your exacting standards. For instance, the hatch may be built open or closed, and there are two head options for a tank commander, who may either be built examining a monitor or operating a pintle weapon.

This kit looks like it will have all kinds of options and should give you plenty of bits to build out your forces.

The pintle can be a heavy flamer, a multi-laser, or a heavy stubber, while you can also fit a hunter-killer missile and a dozer blade.

Excitingly, there are also loads of interior detail options, including ammo magazines and extra crew.

Overall, the new Solar Auxilia plastic range refresh looks amazing, and they will be ready to fight for the Emperor soon!

Hermes Light Sentinel

Here is the latest on the Solar Auxilia Heremes Light Sentinel for Horus Heresy:

Solar Auxilia Light Sentinel

It might look like it’s missing a few armour panels, but the stripped-down appearance is all in service to its speed and manoeuvrability. This light and efficient Sentinel is a favourite for striking exposed enemy flanks and isolated command units, then melting back into cover before significant resistance can muster.

They’re typically equipped with a multi-laser for deadly anti-infantry punch, but can swap it for a heavier Hermes grenade launcher that trades range for versatility. A volley of high-powered krak grenades can even threaten armoured tanks, once the Light Sentinel darts around to target their vulnerable sides and rear.

If you don’t want the heavily armored version, here you go! Charge up the field quickly with this, take a position, and destroy what you can on the way.

Solar Auxilia Light Sentinel 1

The Hermes has a heavier-armoured, more aggressive sub-pattern for the elite Veletaris sections. Though a touch slower thanks to its additional armour, the Incursus pattern of Hermes Light Sentinel packs an even more fearsome arsenal to make use of the Veletaris driver’s superior skills.

If you want a little more armor, luckily, you don’t have to buy a separate kit. They mentioned each box would have two walkers and could be built into either variant.

Solar Auxilia Light Sentinel 2

Veletarii Sentinels are safe to support the vicious frontal assaults that the Veletaris tercios are famous for, and harry fast-moving Legiones Astartes units who could sweep away lighter Sentinel squadrons. Their searing volkite calivers can be swapped for heavy flamers for close-range breakthrough actions.

It looks like you’ll get a ton of weapon options for this kit, and we’ll never complain about more bits.

That’s it for the new Horus Heresy Solar Auxilia range of plastic kits, including tanks, transports, and infantry, as well as an army box set.  Overall, this is an exciting release for both Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40k hobbyists!
