RUMORS: Firefly Reboot Coming to Disney+

By Travis Pasch | December 18th, 2020 | Categories: Pop Gamer Culture, Warhammer 40k Rumors

Firefly feature rThere have been some rumors that a Firefly reboot is coming to Disney+. Let’s hope the word on the street is true and we get more episodes!

Disney acquired the rights to the show back in 2019 with their purchase of Fox. Right off the bat, it seemed like nothing was going to happen with the show, but what changed? The closing of most movie theatres!

So for Team Mouse, this means they are shifting away from the bigger Blockbusters and moving more into home entertainment. And if you watched Firefly, you know just how entertaining it was to speed through the series. Their investor meeting last week showed this concept over and over, the majority of programs were heavily weighted to the home viewing side of things.

If you didn’t hear, Disney had a big investor announcement recently, and Firefly wasn’t included in the presentation. But that doesn’t really mean too much. There have been whispers for a while now that it’s coming! And it is still in such early development that they couldn’t show it off quite yet.

According to this article, a Firefly reboot may be a go!

Firefly Reboot Coming to Disney+: Rumors

Firefly rebootWhile the original series only had 14 episodes, it created quite the cult following. With Disney+ making reboots of things like Willow, it looks like they are willing to dive into nostalgia and make things not just based on the new flavor of the month. This also looks to be more of a series and not another movie like Serenity.

There may be some serious changes though…

Possible Changes Coming

Firefly reboot 2It looks like they are trying to turn the show more family-friendly and away from the original PG-13 style. With things moving to a more PG style, we may even see some characters like Inara, whose job is unscrupulous to some, changed, or just dropped completely. On top of that, Joss Wheadon has been embroiled in some odd accusations lately with previous actors. So Disney may just not be willing to take the risk on him and grab a new leader for the show.

Also, with turning the program very family-friendly, he may not even want any part of it. Since it could stray from his original ideas for the show.  Either way, we’d love to see more of the show and, if they stick to what made it great, it could be a really fun family show to watch!

Are you excited for a possible reboot? Do you care that it could be a more family-friendly series?
