Tournaments Are Back! Top 3 40k Army Lists From May’s Alamo GT

space marine wal hor tourneyYes, there was a tournament over the weekend amid social distancing. Don’t miss the top three army lists from the Alamo Warhammer 40k GT!

Regardless of how we all feel in the current situation of the world, a 40k ITC tournament was held over the weekend being the first big one we’ve seen conducted since the global crisis began. With that said, the Alamo 40k GT had just under thirty players that showed up to roll dice. While it might be a smaller than usual turnout from an event of that caliber, we’ve still got three lists that stuck to the top of the leaderboards. Here they are.

3rd Place: Chaos- Sensei Swag

alamo gt sensei swagThis Chaos list finished in third place running a heavily-mechanized workhorse. A Battalion was made with some Cultists as troops but the real heavy-lifters in the list came from two Lord Discos, two Heldrakes, and three double Thermal Cannon Knights. Armor was instantly evaporated from six super meltas focus-firing them while the Lord Discos and Heldrakes acted as a shock troop to apply some early game pressure. The Cultists probably worked as a little bit of screening here and there but for the most part, were used to sit on objectives.

2nd Place: Chaos- Charles Vasquez

alamo gt vasquez 1This list used the Possessed bomb as well as a nice shooting platform from some Dreadnoughts and Obliterators. Breaking down the full list, Charles spent 1CP to turn the first Battalion into some Daemonkin Ritualists. This let his Master of Possession give his twenty Possessed +1 Strength and Attack.

alamo gt vasquez 2Next, we had Ahriman and a Dark Apostle lead another Battalion some Cultists and two min squads of Pox Walkers. These guys were probably used as slightly tougher screens and objective holders. However, instead of dumping all the points for the usual thirty-man Pox squads, Charles put the points elsewhere. a gun platform of a Plagueburst Crawler, two Butcher Cannon Deredeos, and a squad of three Obliterators were taken. It’s important to note too that this list was all Alpha Legion, which let Charles use Stratagems like Forward Operatives to move units closer and Conceal to keep his opponent from shooting his Possessed.

1st Place: Grey Knights- Colin McDade

Grey Knights Wal Hor

alamo collin 1Finally, we’ve got Grey Knights finishing strong in first place. For the first detachment, we’ve got Voldus and a Librarian leading a Battalion with Strike Squads and a huge blob of Terminators. Four of the Terminators were given some Warding Staves to help them survive in combat longer. An Apothecary was also taken and babysat the Terminator and Paladin squads. Speaking of Paladin squads, they almost all had Psilencers for D3 damage spam.

alamo collin 2To top the two football teams off, another Battalion was taken with a Chaplain, a Brother-Captain acting as their version of a Smash Captain, and more Strike Squads. Finally, a Purgation squad all armed with Psycannons also hit the table to bring some decently strong firepower. With Tide of Convergence active, all those Psilencers and Psycannons had a bonus Strength and Damage characteristic, which really helped make the army brutal. That means that all those Psilencers were S5 D3+1 damage and the Psycannons were a hot S8 2 damage per shot. Plus, there was a ten-man Strike Squad that was a prime target for Psybolt ammunition, increasing the Strength and AP to help clear screens from the opponent’s force. Awesome list!

What do you think about the top three lists from this event? Is this a decent picture of where the meta is now?
