The Goonhammer Open US GT happened over the weekend with some pretty sweet 40k army lists making it out towards the top!
The tournament is over and now we’re able to look at which lists managed to secure a place at the top! Check out what the winners brought in their armies.
Again this week we decided to grab our 3 favorite lists that finished towards the top instead of the top 3 because the actual finishers were mostly lists we’ve seen plenty of times before.

Scott’s Imperial Guards are made up of two detachments. The first is led by triple tank commanders. These are standard choices that allow the use of Commands and Orders, making the force more effective over the course of the game.
Troops are also straight forward with 30 Guardsmen taking the field to allow for a large number of bodies to help muck up objectives, or simply help out with a large volume of shots.
Elites bring in a single Platoon Commander for another cheap support piece. The battalion rounds off with two Manticores, which add extra ranged anti-armor shots, which every list needs access to at least some amount of.
The second detachment is led by Inquisitor Coteaz, a Primaris Psyker, and a Tempestor Prime. Coteaz has a decent leadership sharing ability and comes with the bonus of extra psychic support. speaking of psykers, the Primaris Psyker’s only purpose is psychic support, hence why it is such a cheap model. The Tempestor Prime on the other hand is a simple HQ with the ability to give commands.
Troops bring in 15 Tempestus Scions, which all-in-all are slightly better than guardsmen and also a little bit more expensive but they can appear out of nowhere spitting hot fire. Finishing the list is 5 Tauros Primes. These are great transports that offer good ranged options and aren’t too expensive, making them very cost-efficient options to take en masse!
What do you think about all three of these most recent lists? Do you like seeing the Guard do well?
