Intensify forward firepower, and don’t miss the newest Rebel capital ship! This bad boy can punch just as hard as the Imperial Star Destroyer. For the Rebellion!
The Rebel’s new forward firing beast changes the way their fleet engages the enemy. Most Rebels ships are designed to make use of their strong broadsides, and like to keep their distance. Not the Liberty. It want to charge headlong into the enemy and deliver a devastating armament of 7 dice out of its wide front arc. This ship also has one of the highest shields in its front arc; a mighty 5! Though lightly shielded on its left and right hull zones, this ship boasts 2 Brace defense tokens and 1 Redirect. This ship also has another first ever: the ability to equip 2 Turbolaser upgrades! The Liberty expansion also offer a whole assortment of new weapons to bring to bear.
Spinal Armament is a Turbolaser upgrade that adds 1 red die to your forward and rear firing arcs. Slap this on the Liberty and you are throwing out 8 dice from your front hull zone! The added die to the rear arc is for emergency use when the enemy has your vulnerable rear arc in its sights.
A new Ion Cannon upgrade comes in with High-Capacity Ion Turbines. This upgrade allows you to add a blue die to your left and right firing arcs. Just like Enhanced Armament, this upgrade is best used on broadside type ships, and can beef up the MC80 Assault Cruiser to have a potential of 5 red dice and 3 blue dice out of its side firing arcs. Add in Ackbar and you have a massive 7 red dice and 3 blue!
A new hot Turbolaser is the Quad Turbolaser Cannons. As if Home One wasn’t bad enough, handing out accuracy dice like candy, this Turbolaser allows you to add an additional accuracy if at least one other red die face has an accuracy. Good bye to your enemy’s defense tokens! Doesn’t look like he will be spending them with the amount of accuracy you will have from your attacks.
Now on to the amazing new Title upgrades that come with this behemoth of an expansion. The namesake title, Liberty, allows you to activate one additional squadron if you spend a squadron token. If you have a squadron token, you could activate 2 bombers near your ship without having to spend a squadron dial. Since your Liberty will most definitely be in the thick of the fighting the ability to add squadron support will work wonders for the outcome of the battle.
The Mon Karren title is out to deliver a beating to her enemies. Karren allows you force the enemy to use only 1 defense token whenever you are attacking. This is huge, as you will force the enemy into a tight spot, even before you have rolled any accuracy results. Add in the aforementioned Quad Turbolaser Cannon and the enemy will sit helplessly as you deliver salvo after salvo of unopposed firepower.
The Endeavor title is more for the defensively minded fleet admirals. This title allows you to gain one Contain defense token at the start of the battle. This will add a healthy 4 defensive tokens to be used at your whim. The Liberty will certainly be a priority target for your enemy, and the Endeavor will ensure that it will remain intact for the coming storm.
Lastly, the newest Rebel Commander to hit the scene is General Crix Madine. His ability works much like that of Admiral Ozzel, as Madine allows you to outmaneuver your foes. This is like having a free Nav Team on each of your ships. Your Maneuver dials now allow you to make 2 clicks on a yaw value, and your maneuver tokens allow you to change speed and click 1 yaw. This will help ensure that the massive fire power of the Liberty will be pointed at the right target each and every turn!
This concludes the preview of the new Liberty class ship for Star Wars Armada. The game is rapidly changing and there are so many more new toys to add to your fleet. Make sure to keep practicing and learning new tactics to help your achieve victory with your fleet!
