Games Workshop – The End of Store Copies?

Remember the days of store copies of codex books and rules sets? Looks like those days may be behind us.

First the White Dwarf starting coming shrink wrapped, then codex books, and now this.
Starting recently it looks like Games Workshop stores have stopped opening copies of books for customers to peruse.
I’ve been getting word from sources on two different continents that customers can not longer ‘read the books’ at GW stores.
Via creepy tree
When I went down to my local GW on Saturday (I’m painting Kataphrons at the moment) they did not have an open copy.
Today my mate who went to another store had the same thing and was told by the manager there that GW now have a ‘no open copy policy’ on their new stuff. Now maybe this is a local thing, it’s just two instances, one staffer’s comment… OR… maybe you know this already and I’m behind the times… but what it meant to me and others was: we couldn’t check out this book.
Now before you get mad at your local GW manager, remember that he (or she) are not the policy makers, they just do what GW tells them. They are just like the folks behind the counter at Starbucks working for a living like you and me.
It’s really unfortunate that customers can’t take the merchandise for a test drive so to speak any more, but there are always great ways to checkout new books before you buy.
Channels like Spikey Bits (shameless plug), and various others post up unboxings and reviews every week, so when in doubt hit up YouTube for a look before you buy.
