Airbrush Quickie Tutorial: Purple Demon Skin

Another Airbrush Quickie just wrapped up over on Jack of Clubs Painting! Check out how to get some quick purple shades using your airbrush.

Jack of Clubs Painting is bringing you another great tutorial on how to paint purple demon skin. Jack is using a monster model from Scale 75 that is pre-shaded to show you all of that juicy detail. We’ll be building up our colors with the vibrancy of the purple paint pigment and the flesh tones used in this painting. We want to start off with a nice base coat on his demon flesh to start off our purple paint scheme.

To begin the flesh base coat, Jack uses Vallejo Royal Purple to start the vibrancy pigment. It’s dark enough that we don’t have to rely on our black primer for shading. Once we have a nice dark purple base coat on our model let’s move to the next shade.

Pro Acyrl Purple, a mid to lighter tone purple, will go right over the Royal Purple. Use a high angle with your airbrush, making sure to go light on the air trigger. We want to keep the darker purple tones in the deepest recesses of his muscle to provide contrast. Pro Acryl Magenta goes on next to brighten up the lighter purple highlight.

Pro Acyrl Tan Flesh mixed with our previous Magenta adds a more realistic flesh tone to our model. We want a humanoid flesh tone on the monster to make him more unsettling. We’ll focus on the biggest slabs of muscles and fat, keeping our air flow low.

As a final flesh tone to keep it more realistic, add Pro Acryl Ivory. This layer makes your previous Tan Flesh and Magenta colors on the flesh even paler.
