5 Questions to Ask at the GW Preview (that really matter)

gw-previews-new-warhammerHere are five questions we would like to ask Games Workshop at the next live preview that may really matter for the future of the Warhammer hobby.

With so much going on with the possibility of a new edition of Warhammer 40k, we would love to see some hard questions get asked to Games Workshop at their live preview on September 31st online or at the NOVA Open.

Especially when you consider they will most likely reveal new Guard, Leagues of Votann, and or  World Eaters. So, even if they come out soon, they might only be out a few months before a rumored new edition reboot hits next summer, which just doesn’t sound fun to many hobbyists.

5 Questions to Ask at the Games Workshop Preview That Really Matter

While we’re all about new minis, it seems to be increasingly difficult to get excited about new previews with the specter of a Warhammer 40k rules change or reboot hanging just 9-10 months out. Considering they haven’t 100% confirmed the new edition, it would be nice to know what is actually happening.

So, if you have a chance to ask some questions to Games Workshop at the next preview, here are our ideas about what to ask!

Will the 40k Rules Get Hard-Booted?

10th-Edition-40k-warhammer-rumors-1This might be the most important question, as it finally feels like GW is getting this edition properly balanced (which we talked about more here). It would be good to know, mainly because it won’t really be worth buying rules for sure but also potentially more models even until you know what is changing.

Not to mention just the peace of mind (or chaos) if you have an idea of how the rules will change and if it is worth it to continue buying rules supplements because they will not be squatted in mere months.

Why Even Change the Game When You Just Figured Out How to Balance it?

codex supplements bundleThis piggybacks off the last question, and honestly, why change 40k now? The meta feels like it is in a good spot; people understand how to play, and it’s fun. After all the talk of balance and needing fewer books to play, now it feels like a very odd time to reboot the rules.

The change from 7th to 8th was drastic, but it made sense in the way that 7th really wasn’t really bringing in new players. We are at a perceived high point of players and hobbyists; why switch stuff up when we have all that was promised to us balance-wise?

Can’t We Just do Seasons With the Same Core Rules From Now on?

40k 9th new editionIt honestly feels like the core rules are in a decent place right now. If they just did seasons to change up the meta and even keep the balance dataslates, that, in theory, would be fine.

This way, it would be so much easier for new players to get into the game, people who don’t play all the time to stay in the loop, and fewer rules overall! The season idea is a great way to mix things up but not change the game’s overall feel so much it’s hard for players actually to get and stay with the game.

Will the App Ever Work, or has the Dev Just Shifted to Making it Ready for 10th?

warhammer appLook, at this point, it’s getting a little ridiculous… It’s been three years, and it still just doesn’t work that well. This could also be because GW has stopped worrying about 9th and trying to get it revamped and working for a new edition.

If this is the case, then we’ve basically been paying for a Beta for three years. It’s possible that if that APP actually worked well, it could be great for the game.

What’s Next for AI and AT?

forge world pre-ordersThey have been really lacking in the update department as of late (especially AT); while AI did get some rules for Horus Heresy, that’s about all we’ve seen. It would just be good to know if they will actually keep supporting the games or if they are going by the wayside.

Obviously, we don’t want them to, but would be nice to know what’s happening.
