Is it Worth It?

Chaos cultists 2Honestly, it’s not a great box. While it does have a little bit of value, you basically only get the Master of Possession for free. If you already have or don’t want that model, you really don’t save anything. A lot of the 10th Edition Combat Patrols have been lackluster, which unfortunately follows the trend.

While the units inside are decent, and you save some cash, we expect more from GW.  However, if you need everything inside, it is cheaper than buying the models individually, so it does have value. Overall, the newer 10th Edition Combat Patrols have been mostly underwhelming so far, and this is following the trend.

How Many Points Is This?

So, you’re wondering how many points the Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol box racks up, eh? Well, in Warhammer 40k 10th edition, this box hits with about 430 points. But, as you know, the tides of the Grimdark universe are ever-shifting, and with the latest points updates, that number could quickly fluctuate.

One minute, you’re ready to destroy the Imperium, and the next, you’re recalculating your list because the points gods have decided to have some fun.

Legionaries

Chaos Space Marine LegionariesIt’s important to recognize that even the Space Marines, with all their training and discipline, can be swayed by the allure of Chaos. Whether they were corrupted during the Horus Heresy or, more recently, these formidable warriors combine their innate genetic abilities with dark blessings and malevolent sorcery. After many battles, they have become fearless, superhuman fighters.

Possessed

Chaos Space Marines PossessedThe Possessed are ferocious and savage Astartes warriors who have fused with the daemons of the Chaos Gods in a blasphemous union. Their bodies have been warped and mutated by their parasitic connection to the warp, causing their armored forms to flow like wax.

Chaos Cultists

Chaos CultistsChaos Cultists are ordinary men and women who have fallen prey to the seduction of this power and serve as mortal devotees to these Gods. Despite their lack of proper training and equipment, these fanatics are commanded by mighty heretic warlords and take to the field in large numbers in the form of Cultist Mobs.

They charge headlong into battle with an array of improvised, stolen, and makeshift weapons. They use sheer force of numbers to take down the enemy.

Master of Possession

Master of PossessionThe Masters of Possession are a group of psykers belonging to the Heretic Astartes. They possess expertise in summoning daemons into living beings and utilize empirical energies to reinforce such tainted unions. During battles, they harness daemonic energies to destroy the souls of their opponents and channel them for greater advantage.

New Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol Rules

As you’d expect from a Combat Patrol built for close combat mayhem, the Zarkan’s Daemonkin comes loaded with rules to help you dominate the battlefield. The Possessed may be all about close quarters, but they’re still Chaos Space Marines at heart, rocking the same Dark Pacts army rule as before.

What sets them apart this time are new Enhancements, secondary objectives, and Stratagems that sharpen their melee game even more. You can get all the new Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol rules right here.

Foul Zealotry

Chaos Space Marines Combat Patol Rules

By fully diving into the worship of the Dark Gods and conducting some seriously twisted possession rituals, Masters of Possession are rewarded with dark powers to share with their most loyal minions.

Each time the bearer’s unit strikes up a Dark Pact, their weapons don’t just settle for one boost—they get both the [LETHAL HITS] and [SUSTAINED HITS 1] abilities for the rest of the phase. Talk about double trouble.

Stratagem

Chaos Space Marines Combat Patol Rules 2

The Heretic Astartes show no mercy, hunting down their fleeing enemies with vicious determination. For the rest of the phase, every time a model in your unit attacks an enemy that’s already taken some losses (below Starting Strength), you get to re-roll any Hit rolls of 1. If that enemy is really hurting (below Half-strength), you can also re-roll Wound rolls of 1. Nothing like kicking them while they’re down!

What to Buy Next?

Chaos Space Marines Accursed CultistsAgain, this doesn’t get you a ton, so you can go in any direction you want from here. You’ll probably want Chosen, some tanks, and characters. With the new codex, your army lists might change, but you can’t go wrong with dreads, tanks, and swathes of infantry! If you want to go more the cultist route, you’ll need to get Accursed Cultists and the Dark Commune to really push the power.

However, you can never go wrong with getting the minis you think are cool and building an army around them! While it may not be the best value, it still offers a way for new players to start building their armies and exploring the Chaos Space Marines faction.
