Even With Rules Bans Aeldari & Knights Dominate Münsterland 40k GT

banned-10th-edtion-rules-tournaments-warhammer-40k-votannAeldari and Imperial Knights dominate the Münsterland GT, even with banned and adjusted new 10th Edition 40k rules!

There has been plenty of talk about the new Warhammer 40k 10th Edition ruleset and what people like and don’t. However, one contender has risen above the rest to be the most overpowered (at least in theory), and this latest tournament really showed why people thought that!

GW has promised changes, Dataslates, and big index card fixes; this is probably needed as right now, some armies seem quite obviously bottom tier, and others are flying high.

Let’s hope the changes come soon because Imperial Knights and Eldar seem to be much better than anything else out there, and the decision for some tournaments to ban Eldar rules is looking to be the right call.

Even With Rules Bans Aeldari Dominate Münsterland 10th Edition 40k GT

Here are the latest house rules and bannings for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k rules tournaments for the Münsterland GT, and as they said, don’t shoot the messenger.

Unless GW fixes the plentiful issues of 10th edition themselves in a timely manner, starting with the first 10th edition GT in Germany (Münsterland GT) we will use the following houserules in order to make the game enjoyable for all players:

  • [Towering] has no impact on measuring line of sights (measure as with every other model)
  • Wraithknights Heavy Wraithcannons lose the [Devastating Wounds] ability
  • Fatedice are limited to one dice per unit per phase
  • [Indirect] fire suffers the same penalty as in 9th edition (-1BS and +1 to save) in addition to any other applicable rules like cover, [Stealth], etc. and cannot benefit from the +1 to hit for being [Heavy] when fired without line of sight (model wise)
  • Thousand Sons “Twist of Fate” Cabal Ritual is modified to “any armour saving throws of the unit are modified by -2” instead
  • The range of the “Fire Overwatch” stratagem is reduced to 12” and only visible units can be shot
  • Mortal Wounds from a single unit are capped at 6 MW per unit per phase when targeted at a non-Monster or non-Vehicle unit, any additional wounds e.g. with Assault Canons are then handled as normal (saves can be made etc.)
  • Models can move over and stay on objectives without limitations (as per 9th)
  • Lone Operative and similar abilities are subject to investigation of how to fix them best (tbd.)

This should be seen as a first try to restore the fun of Warhammer 40k in these grim times. It might be subject to change after the first results and/or actions done by GW themselves.

Now take a look at the event results courtesy of our friends at Best Coast Pairings.

Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT

Not only did Aeldari take the 1st and 2nd spot, but they also grabbed a 7th, with Knights taking 3rd place. It’s pretty obvious, just from looking at the rules (or if you have played against them), just how good Aeldari is in 10th Edition.

We’ve talked before about GW playtesting, and how it is basically impossible to truly balance this many factions and datasheets with their current team, but let’s hope these tournaments give GW a little hint at what needs to be changed so players can start playing 10th Edition tournaments with rules that feel like they are balanced.

Imperial Knights have already won another 10th Edition tournament, so with another 3rd sprinkled in, they are also looking to be another front-runner for needing an adjustment.

It just seems a little crazy that after working on these rules for two years, GW let them go to print with some obvious and insane power combos that Aeldari has. Let’s take a look at the winning lists:

Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 2 Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 3 Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 4This list leans heavily on Fire Prisms, Support Weapons, and Voidweavers. With all those free re-rolls, you can really guarantee you are getting off those big hits with the big weapons.

Now, for the other Eldar Army List for 10th Edition 40k:

Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 5 Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 6 Aeldari Dominate Munsterland GT 7Something interesting to point out is that these two top Eldar lists are both extremely different from each other. Most lists that become super dominant tend to look very similar, meaning you can play it a little loose and still do well.

This army list has zero Fire Prisms, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Let’s hope GW considers this and the upcoming FAQ starts bringing this faction more in line.

Bugeater GT

This is hot on the heals of Bugeater GT banning Eldar rules as well from their past Warhammer 40k 10th Edition event:

New Aeldari 40k rules

40k Bugeater GT Update!
With the upcoming release of 10th we wanted to send out a quick announcement as we are getting a lot of questions about which edition we are using.
If the points and datasheets are available for digital download on or before June 16th we will use 10th Edition Rules. If that happens we will make another announcement shortly after in regards to list due dates/missions etc. Also, following the precedent from the community and other events in the past, we will not be allowing Aeldari at our event until GW releases a FAQ/Errata for them.
If they release one we will revisit this and update if needed.
If all of the points and datasheets are not out by June 16th, we will be using 9th edition with the current GT pack that is in place.
Hope to see everyone on the 24th and 25th of June!

Regardless, things will be a little wonky if you’re playing at a 40k tournament within a few months of the release of the 10th Edition release.

So we’ll have to wait and see where Games Workshop and tournaments take the game of 10th Edition over the next few weeks…
