GW Confirms New Space Marine Chapter Tactics

Primaris Space MarinesYesterday, we spotted all the Space Marine Chapter Tactics from various sides which were later confirmed by GW later in the day all on one convenient page.

It didn’t take long for Games Workshop to release the new Chapter Tactics after they were all over the internet yesterday. Let’s take a look at them and see what they had to say.

40k Space Marine Chapter Tactics

The Space Marines codex will be available to pre-order this weekend, and you’ll be able to use these rules for yourself very soon, whether you’re fielding an army of your own creation, some well-known Successors, or one of the legendary First Founding Chapters. Look out later in the week for the rest of our Chapter Focus articles, where we’ll be diving into how the Chapter Tactics work, as well as relics, warlord traits and special characters.

We’re seeing all of the Chapter Tactics on one page, and it looks like the Crimson Fists aren’t included once again. Does this mean they’re not getting a Chapter Tactic OR will they just use their parent chapter/legion the Imperial Fists?

Regardless, let’s take a closer look at three of them.

Righteous Zeal is giving the Black Templars a chance to re-roll all failed charge rolls for units that have this ability. This will come in really handy if you’re trying to make a long range charge.

The Imperial Fists are getting a very nice offensive advantage with this ability. Enemy units will not get their save throws for being in cover.

Additionally, you’ll be able to re-roll and failed wound rolls when targeting a building. This is just making the Imperial Fists a force to be reckoned with in combination with a commander nearby. The enemies are not considered in cover for units with this tactic!

So this will be a great ability if it comes on models with a low quantity of attack rolls. Salamander’s with the Master Artisans ability can re-roll a single failed hit and wound roll each time it shoots or fights. This seems like it will come in very useful, especially when you need just one more wound to take down and enemy model (looking at you lascannon)!

There’s also new background focused on the Primaris Marines and the Ultima Founding, from Chapters brought back from the brink of destruction like the Crimson Fists to new heroes like the Rift Stalkers. There’s detailed livery to inspire your own paint schemes, as well as a breakdown of squad and company markings, from those of the more Codex compliant Chapters like the Ultramarines to the unique battle-iconography of the Black Templars.
