GW Previews New Primaris Model & Psychic Awakening

dark-angels-psychic-awakeningIt’s a new Primaris model. Here are the latest previews for new 40k releases and Psychic Awakening’s Ritual of the Damned that are on the way very soon.

Warhammer Community just revealed a little more on Psychic Awakening today as it looks like the rumors about the new release were true:

Let’s start there:

Rumors of Dark Angels Primaris Character Emerge

From users Brometheus, Grimgold, and Hantheman on DakkaDakka, they both chipped in adding a little weight to the rumors.

Coming from the forum, here’s what was said:

I’ve been told DA get a new primaris character who’s focused on character killing. We’ll see I guess! Shame not to get a new Azrael model

And Grimgold noted:

I think it’s pretty clear what’s going to happen,

The new characters is going to be a dark angel, Lazarus, Company Master of the 5th, the first inner circle member to cross the rubicon primaris. They talked about him in white dwarf, which was them priming the pump. It’s amusing to hear that he is good at killing characters, probably has huntsman as his trait, and uses a heavenfall blade equivalent.

The DA are going to get tactical doctrine equivalents, hopefully based around the ravenwing/deathwing/greenwing. Who knows with the right rules combo maybe deathwing will be useable (probably hoping for too much there).

Looking back to the Dark Angels White Dwarf from a while back, they did make mention of Lazarus assuming command and crossing the Rubicon Primaris:

1. The Master of the 5th Balthasar Company [Dark Vengeance basic box] dies and is replaced by Master Lazarus, who after being seriously injured became the first member of the Inner Circle to cross the Rubicon to become Primaris.

Dark Angels Lazarus Primaris

It looks like the rumors were true! Lazarus is back, and he heralds new rules for not just the Dark Angels but also the Thousand Sons and Grey Knights as well!

At the head of the Dark Angels forces is Master Lazarus – former Sergeant, now Captain of the Dark Angels 5th Company! For those of you who remember The Wrath of Magnus, Lazarus was laid low by the fell sorcery of the XV Legion. Reborn as the first Primaris Space Marine of the Inner Circle, he’s back with a dark vengeance and an even deeper hatred for psykers.

Ritual of the damned book warhammer 40k rules

Fighting alongside the Dark Angels are the Sons of Titan, whose prognosticators have foreseen the future evildoing on the twin homeworlds of the Thousand Sons. All of this will be covered in the next instalment of Psychic Awakening, which also contains rules for all three of these factions.

Are these the rules Grey Knights have been waiting for? From this preview, it looks like the Dark Angels will be getting the same treatment as the Blood Angels in Blood of Baal. GK players will be waiting with bated breath to see if their beloved chapter will gain some of the rules to at least put them on par with their fellow Astartes in the game.

For the Dark Angels, this book brings the Chapter into line with recent Space Marines updates, and also includes lots of juicy new rules content, especially for Deathwing and Ravenwing commanders.

The Grey Knights get plenty of new tricks too, including a particularly powerful new ability called Masters of the Warp, which rewards you for taking a dedicated army of Grey Knights, channelling a specific aspect of the warp to provide an army-wide bonus.

The Thousand Sons can now dedicate their Sorcerers to one of the nine Cults of the Legion – a callback to their arcane roots on fallen Prospero – providing them with a plethora of new tactical options.

Ultimately, everything is still shrouded in mystery, pun intended. But following the previous releases… It’s not surprising to see GW make a Primaris character from the Dark Angels as the “new model” out of the expansion. For each Chapter that’s been updated, we’ve seen some kind of Primaris model hit. (Aside from the poor Black Templars in Faith & Fury).

What are your thoughts on the new Dark Angels? Would you prefer to see an old named character hit the table as a new Primaris version?
