Games Workshop just gave us our first preview of the upcoming T’au Codex. Come check out the latest rules and Stratagems straight from the source.
The new T’au codex is on its way, and this week Games Workshop is giving us previews of what we’ll be seeing inside the covers. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about the new rules and two new Stratagems.
The first Sept Tenet we’ll be previewing is that of the T’au Sept – first and most prestigious among the T’au Empire’s holdings.
Perhaps none among the T’au are as fanatical in their pursuit of the Greater Good – or drilled as hard – as those who hail from the core world, making them superb defensive warriors. On the tabletop, this is reflected by Coordinated Fire Arcs:
Coordinated Fire Arcs comes into play when a unit with this tenet uses the For the Greater Good ability (currently in Xenos Index II), or when they fire Overwatch themselves, while they’re within 6″ of a friendly T’au Sept unit. Regardless of the firing model’s Ballistic Skill, or modifiers, they’ll need a 5 or 6 for a successful hit roll.
If you’re using Hammerhead Gunships, we’d recommend taking three in a Spearhead Detachment with Longstrike at their head. As well as providing additional bonuses to hit for these units, this legendary tank ace has been enhanced to benefit more from Markerlights than his fellow T’au, allowing you to make the most of yours:
The XV02 Battlesuit is getting a +1 to the number of markerlights on an enemy affected by the Markerlights ability.
We’re also getting a look at two new Stratagems.
Breach and Clear is going to cost you 1 CP, it’s used in your shooting phase before a Breacher Team from your army shoots at an enemy unit in cover. They will be able to re-roll failed wound rolls against the enemy unit until the end of the phase. This could get really dangerous, really quick.
For 3 CP’s you can use Focused Fire after a T’au Sept unit from your army inflicts an unsaved wound on an enemy unit in the Shooting phase. They will get a +1 to wound for any other T’au Sept units from your army that target the same enemy unit that phase. Get your group of T’au Sept units within range of the same unit, pop the Stratagem, and start adding up those +1’s to wound.
All in all this preview is making the T’au look extremely intimidating on the tabletop. Make sure you check back in with us tomorrow when we get another preview of what’s in store for the T’au, and a closer look at another tenet.
If you have to have more T’au checkout the latest rules rumors from today along with a summary of the most recent posts going back into last week as well.
What are your thoughts on the latest T’au preview? Are you going to be playing this army when the new Codex comes out?
