New rules were just spotted for Severina Raine, the new female Commissar model, Warhammer 40k! Take a look and see if you want her leading your guard army!
Warhammer Community surprised everyone with a new model when they previewed Severina Raine the Commissar model that is coming soon from Black Library.
Looking at the miniature, she’s totally functional as a Commissar on the 40k tabletop according to GW:
Severina Raine serves as Commissar for the 11th Antari Rifles, an Astra Militarum regiment assigned to the Bale Stars, where a sinister Chaos cult known as the Sighted threaten the Imperium’s rule. As the secrets of the Sighted come to light and illuminate the darkness of Raine’s troubled past, she must cling to the Commissar’s creed, and have faith that the Emperor will bring victory.
We already know she got her own set of rules for Kill Team that were spotted recently on Imgur, and now have her Warhammer 40k rules as well!
Severina Raine Kill Team Rulesheet
Starting off with Severina’s keywords, she is also listed as a Commander. Originally when Kill Team released, there were no such things as Commanders. However, GW decided to throw characters into the bunch of your elite Kill Teams and had them cost usually a considerable amount of points more. Players have to decide if they want to sacrifice some of their model count for a single character.
Breaking Down the Commissar
Severina is what you’d expect from a Guardsman model. Shes T3, hits on a 3+, has 3 wounds, and actually has a decent 4+ armor save.
Severina is only going to cost twenty points and is a named Commissar with two named weapons, Penance and Evenfall, and can auto-pass Nerve Tests for models within 6″ of her. Believe it or not, twenty points could get you a lot in a Guard Kill Team. However, one of the weakest points of the team is their morale.
Once they break, it’s almost impossible to get your men to regroup. The opponent has to withstand an unholy amount of shooting the first couple of turns. But once they start to kill off a few models, the Guard can quickly become crippled and break.
All in all, Severina looks to be worth her points in Kill Team. You just want to keep most of your force bubbled up around her. As for her weapons, the -1 AP is nice, but there’s nothing that jumps out as insane. Fearless Guardsmen spam is going to be something that most Kill Teams won’t be able to keep up with. Especially if the match transitions into the late game and you’ve still got models.
Severina Raine Warhammer 40k Datasheet:
Clocking in at 1 point more than a Lord Commissar (at 36 points), Severina Rhaine has one special rule that while fluffy, may not see her last too long in Matched play:
So how does she compare to a regular Commissar? Her carapace armor gives her a slightly better save, and her signature bolt pistol, Penitence, has a handy -1 AP – perfect for bringing the Emperor’s wrath to heretics and aliens alike.
As well as the typical Commissar abilities, Raine has a bespoke ability, Leading from the front, which reflects her gung-ho nature, and makes nearby Astra Militarum forces immune to Morale tests when Raine is within 1″ of enemy models. This makes her perfect for leading a force of elite troopers like Veterans and Tempestus Scions to get up-close with the enemy – just the way she fights in Rachel’s stories.
So if you manage to score this new model on release day, she could be used at either herself, a lord commissar, or perhaps just the elite stand in for only 16 points. The choice is up to you!
