GW Reveals the New 40k Necron Overlord Miniature!

Necron-Overlord-new-10th-Edition-Translocation-shroud

It’s time to get your slumbering robots ready, as there is a new 40k Necron Overlord that’s dropping alongside the codex!

We saw Imotekh during the Warhammer Day reveals, but GW promised more miniatures, and this is the first to be revealed!

Not only did GW reveal the model, but they also dropped a little hint at the end for when the codex will be released, and it might be sooner than expected.

We have heard rumors (all true so far) about Orikan The Diviner also joining the line-up of new Necrons, so there’s still more to look forward to past this! Let’s take a closer look.

GW Reveals the New 40k Necron Overlord Miniature!

The latest on the new Necron Overlord model comes from Warhammer Community.

New 40k Necron Overlord

Now a new Overlord is slipping into this dimension, equipped with some devious phasing technology.

This is a totally different direction for the model, and they really have added a ton of effects to the model! While the Necrons have had a lot of Overlord models throughout the years, this one is totally different!

This should be pretty fun to paint with all the effects and dynamic posing!

New 40k Necron Overlord 2

Now, we know what you’re thinking – “Warhammer Community, aren’t those swirls of dematerialising matter remarkably similar to an as-yet unsolved Rumour Engine image from nearly two years ago?” – and as usual you’re spot on. We caught a first glimpse of this ominous Overlord’s unearthly presence all the way back on the 16th of November 2021, and today’s reveal finally closes the case on the longest-running mystery in Rumour Engine history… so far.

This is basically exactly two years from Rumor Engine to reveal, which means this has been in the works for a long time!

New 40k Necron Overlord 3

This miniature uses the baleful emanations of its translocation shroud to show the Overlord in a unique pose – caught in the very moment it phases into (or out of?) the material world. As such, the model almost appears to hover above its own sculpted base, sections of its body and wargear still partway through emerging from invisible phase space.

It definitely is a unique look and really has much more going on than any of the models we’ve seen so far for their infantry.

The new Overlord will be joining Imotekh the Stormlord –himself freshly updated– when Codex: Necronsrises from its tomb later this year.

Before we get into the new rule they showed off, this is super important. They say later this year, which means 2023! However, this also probably means the Ad Mech book won’t come out until 2024.

New Rules

New 40k Necron Overlord 4

Unlike regular Overlords, who must rely on leisurely barge cruises or hefty teleportation gates to get where they’re going, this mobile variant makes use of their personal translocation shroud to slip through solid walls, enemy sentinels, and other obstructions – even bringing their bodyguards along for the ride.

This makes these non-linear Necron nobles especially hard to pin down, as valiant defenders who’d hoped to block the Overlord’s advance or lock them in combat find their foe inexplicably reappearing behind their ranks, or on the other side of a sturdy fortification.

This should give you some good maneuverability and more options for your units to basically phase through the battlefield!
