Today we’re getting a look at an interview with some of the designers of the upcoming Necromunda: Underhive, and some rules can’t miss rules previews.
Andy Hoare (Specialist Games Manager) and David Thomas (Miniatures Designer) both worked on Necromunda and had a lot of good insight to share in the latest interview. Let’s take a look at the video and some of the rules previews that were shared.
One of the first things Andy Hoare was tasked with was writing the rules brief for the rules designer. This was a way to put in writing what he felt the vision should be, how complex it should be, what old rules to bring into the new version, and overall what type of game it will be developed as.
We’re getting a look at the Priority, Action, and End phases with this image. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with how the turns will play out in Necromunda: Underhive.
We’re seeing a similar stat line that you would see in games of Warhammer 40k or AoS, but there’s a few additions. Looking at the Goliath Ganger’s characteristic profile we’re seeing fighters have a Cool Level (CL), Willpower (WIL), and Intelligence (INT).
The new Necromunda: Underhive really looks like it’s going to be a great remake of the classic fan favorite. Andy Hoare is a veteran player, still playing weekly games with his friends, and you can tell by listening to him talk that he’s brought that same passion into designing the new version.
Games Workshop just gave us a preview of next week’s pre-orders, and it’s time to get ready for gang wars in the Underhive!
Let’s take a look at what GW had to say and see how much they’re going to cost you.
Featuring a revitalised, more dynamic take on the classic ruleset you love, new models and new ways to play, this edition of Necromunda promises to be perfect for fans old and new. If you’re a seasoned ganger with several cycles of gang warfare already under your belt, then you’ll love the chance to see Necromunda realised in more detail than ever before, while if you’re a mere juve, the game is now simple to pick up and learn thanks to the Underhive boxed set.
In Necromunda: Underhive, you’ll find everything you need to get started with Necromunda, with rules, terrain, two customisable multipart gangs and more. Meanwhile, when you’re ready to take your game to the next level, the Gang War expansion contains rules for playing on 3D terrain and running deep campaigns with 2 or more players, using skill trees, territory tables, an expanded gang armoury and everything else you may need to create your own turf wars.
Of course, during a campaign, a gang can grow far beyond just 10 members, and with so many new weapons to try out, you’ll want at least a couple of spare wargear loadouts for particularly beloved leaders and champions. We’re happy to say that you’ll be able to pick up both the Escher and Goliath gangs separately, making expanding your gang (or just converting some particularly awesome Chaos Cultists or Astra Militarum) a scratch.
Finally, all the terrain from the Necromunda: Underhive core set will be available separately. This includes barricades, bulkhead doors, and objectives, and while these have been designed to make adding cover to your Necromunda tables easy, they’ll also be great for Warhammer 40,000 players. The bulkhead doors even fit Forge World’s Zone Mortalis tiles!
Necromunda: Underhives is finally here! The Gang boxes will cost you $40 each, and the barricades box will cost you $35. These items go on pre-order on November 11th, but will not be released until November 24th according to the NOV White Dwarf. Make sure you check back in with us later this week for the rest of this week’s new releases and prices.
We look forward to learning more about the upcoming release, and can’t wait to get our copy of Necromunda: Underhive so we can battle it out in the Underhive.
