Updated January 23nd, 2025, by Sam Duguid with the latest 10th Edition 40k Aeldari codex rules reveals.

The Aeldari (or Eldar for you veteran players) are back with fast-paced new rules from their upcoming 10th Edition Codex, that are all about speed, agility, and making life hard for their enemies.

If you’ve ever wanted to command elegant space elves who dance across the battlefield with speed and precision, then you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll break down the new Codex rules and strategies that will make your opponents question their moves while you effortlessly dominate the game.

With wild new rules and mind-bending tactics, it’s time to unleash your inner tactician and ensure your Aeldari army not only thrives but leaves a lasting impression on every battlefield. Are you ready to master the art of Eldar warfare in 10th Edition?

What’s the New Aeldari Battle Focus Rules All About?

Battle Focus works with tokens you earn at the start of each round, based on the size of your Eldar army. These tokens let your units pull off Agile Manoeuvres—special tricks that make them faster, harder to pin down, and more dangerous in the middle of a fight. From boosting movement to denying enemy Overwatch, these abilities keep your army one step ahead.

Here’s how the token count breaks down:

  • Incursion: 2 tokens
  • Strike Force: 4 tokens
  • Onslaught: 6 tokens

You can spend these tokens on different abilities during your turn, but no spamming—each ability can only be used once per phase.

Fancy Footwork Rules in the Aeldari Codex

Some of these Agile Manoeuvres are downright nasty in the best way. Want your vehicles to hit the gas? Star Engines gives them a speed boost by adding D6+1″ to their Move. Got Howling Banshees charging into a fight? Flitting Shadows lets them ignore Overwatch, keeping them safe as they carve through enemies.

For units like Guardian Defenders, things get even spicier. Their Fleet of Foot ability lets them perform the Fade Back maneuver for free. This little trick means that when they’re shot at, they can move away up to D6+1″, making it frustratingly hard for enemies to pin them down.

More Tricks Up Their Sleeves

The Aeldari Codex is full of surprises, and Battle Focus opens up plenty of room for creative tactics. Here are a few more Agile Maneuvers to keep in mind:

  • Swift as the Wind: Add 2″ to a unit’s Move characteristic. Perfect for grabbing objectives or escaping a sticky situation.
  • Sudden Strike: Double the distance for Pile-in and Consolidation moves during a fight. Great for surrounding enemies or diving deeper into enemy lines.
  • Opportunity Seized: If an enemy falls back, your unit can move up to D6+1″. Why let them escape when you can keep the pressure on?

To keep things under control, the Lucid Eye Enhancement lets you adjust a Fate die each turn, ensuring you’re ready for any situation. And if messing with your opponent is more your style, the Torc of Morai-Heg increases the cost of enemy Stratagems near your psykers, throwing a wrench into their plans.

The upcoming Codex: Aeldari is bringing the mysterious Ynnari and the theatrical Harlequins into the spotlight. With new rules to shake up your games, these two factions are ready to stand out.

The Ynnari’s Unique Flavor

The Ynnari bring together the best (and deadliest) from every corner of Aeldari society. Led by Yvraine or the Yncarne, this faction fields a mix of Asuryani, Drukhari, Corsairs, and even Harlequins.

The new Devoted of Ynnead Detachment unleashes their potential with the Strength from Death rule. Your units get faster or fight first in combat as the chaos of battle unfolds, feeding off the losses of their comrades.

Drukhari units like Wyches and Kabalites are fully supported here, seamlessly integrating with the Aeldari playstyle. This Detachment gives you access to a variety of strategies and a visually stunning army with models from across the Aeldari.

Harlequins and the Ghosts of the Webway

If the thought of graceful chaos appeals to you, the Harlequins are the perfect choice. The Ghosts of the Webway Detachment is built around the Acrobatic Onslaught rule. This lets them pass straight through enemy models when charging. Combined with their Battleline status and a bonus to Objective Control, your Troupes become objective-stealing nightmares.

This Detachment allows up to three Harlequin leaders, letting you really lean into their quirky style. Either as an elite force or combined with other units, the Harlequins offer flexibility and a playstyle full of surprises.

Mix and Match for Maximum Fun

The beauty of these Detachments is how well they fit alongside the rest of the Aeldari army. Want to mix the close combat mastery of Harlequins with the heavy firepower of Fire Prisms and Falcons? Go for it. Looking to pair Ynnari with some Wraithguard to soak up damage? Nothing’s stopping you.

These Detachments are about building an army that not only plays well but looks incredible on the battlefield.

Whether it’s the Ynnari growing stronger as the battle intensifies or Harlequins dancing through enemy lines, these new Aeldari rules detachments bring personality to your games. They’re perfect for players who want something outside the norm but embrace themes of speed, precision, and artistry.

Other Aeldari Codex Detachments: Picking Your Style

The Codex doesn’t stop there. The Warhost Detachment is a great all-rounder, while the Windrider Host focuses on jetbike speed. Harlequin fans will love the trickery of Ghosts of the Webway, and the unique flavor of the Ynnari.

These Detachments make the Aeldari Codex more customizable than ever! You can lean into the parts of the army that excite you most. Zipping across the battlefield with jetbikes, smashing objectives with Aspect Warriors, or bending the strands of fate, there’s something here for everyone.

The new Aledari Codex is here, so start planning your next masterpiece. Whether you’re a long-time Craftworld commander or just getting started, these Detachments keep your opponents guessing.
