GW likes to lay Easter Eggs for what’s coming next in 40k inside other supplements- here’s what was just spotted for Dark Mechanicum.
It feels like the idea of the dark side getting a release has been teased/talked about forever. But it finally feels like things are starting to pile up, and maybe, just maybe we’re finally going to see it. Because there have also been some Rumor Engines and darker looking minis from Forge World.
First, we saw tons of coverage about Dark Mechanicum since Shadowspear on into Psychic Awakening. From Daemonforges to literal continent-sized constructs.
Now we have something slid into 9th Edition 40k, that’s a very interesting read.
While this is a story, GW has been known to write into supplement books fluff teasers for future releases. Most notable the Echoes from the Warp sections in Psychic Awakening teased the return of the Necrons Silent King.

RUMORS: 40k Dark Mechanicum Hints & Rumors
The story from the Death Guard codex itself is interesting, but we want to focus on the last two paragraphs. As that part of the story even directly mentions them. It talks a little about their background and how they allied with the Dark Gods, the viral scrapcodes, and the machine-poxes they unleashed. It would be awesome to have some crazy evil machines spitting plague and pox all over everything. If you have the book, you can read the story on page 66.

As of right now, the Dark Mechanicum doesn’t have official plastic models from GW. It would be cool and quite possible to see GW bring in an edgy mechanical faction that splintered off from the Ad Mech during the Heresy.
It’s worth mentioning that we’ve seen some spooky Mechanicum stuff come out of Forge World in the recent past with Anarcharis Scoria hitting the tables in 30k.
Maybe GW could be about to show Chaos some more love?
Do you think could mean anything? Would you like to see them get an official release with minis?
