Necron Crypteks are some of the best engineers in the galaxy whose mastery of dissonance technology allows the Necrons to stay on top!
With the anniversary mini getting revealed, we wanted to take a closer look at these crazy tech wizards from one of the most ancient races. While they don’t have psychic powers they serve a very similar role to psykers. Get out your best engineering gear and let’s learn about some Necron Cryptek lore!
Masters of Dimensions
Keeping ancient technologies is no small task! Just because they show up and destroy your Imperial world doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be appreciative of the skill involved. The Crypteks have spent their long, long lives keeping the Eldritch technologies running smoothly. If you think working a job for 20 years is a long time, try thousands. They have mastered every aspect of technology the Necrons use. So the next time you lose to an army of the undying machines, blame them.
In a strange way, they serve the same purpose the Psykers of other lesser races serve. They can manipulate the Warp and no one other than them basically has any idea how it all works. While they don’t use their innate gifts to manipulate space and time, they do it with an arcane science unknown to the Imperium.
There are hundreds of disciplines to choose from for these ancient beings, so specialization of course developed. Just hope if you’re a Necron Warrior, your Cryptek knows what he’s doing for your specific jump through space!
Surviving for the Purpose of It
Living forever may not be all it’s cracked up to be. Many of the Crypteks now just go through the motions and do their duty. If you did the same thing for millennia you’d probably phone it in a bit as well. While they aren’t as bad as Flayed Ones, don’t expect them to move too fast on your request. But that is nothing special in Necron society, when everyone you know is basically immortal, you start to lose track of time.
They don’t have official ranks in Necron society, but they still wield immense power. Kind of like the advisors to a king who keeps everything running. Actually, they are more like mystical mechanics, who when you need something to work, you have no choice but to pay what they want. The Necron nobility has absolutely no interest in understanding their own machinery, and thus, the Crypteks are such needed figures in society. If you make them mad, who knows where you’ll end up the next time you try to jump through a Monolith… Just be nice to them, or else. Their influence has become so great that even the highest lords will apologize when they need help.
That does it for this lore, just don’t make them angry or you’ll be rolling ones all game!
