The Rhino kits are old- about twenty years old now. After GW’s recent moves, could the Rhino (as we know it) be heading out of the scene for good?
Games Workshop already previewed a new plastic Sisters of Battle Rhino as well as some kind of Primaris hover vehicle. On top of that, Forge World has been kicking old Rhino doors to the curb. So with all of these things rolled up together in recent weeks, what could be next for the regular Rhino kit as we know it?
Sisters Deimos Pattern Rhino Previewed
The Sisters are getting a new Immolator modelbased on the MK1 kit above. But the key takeaway is that it’s sitting on an all-plastic Deimos-pattern Rhino kit. The jury is still out if 30k fans will jump on these since it’s just easier to handle than resin. But in terms of Rhinos, this could be the (new) 40k kit.
Mystery Primaris Hover Rhino Spotted?
In a video preview of new Primaris support coming, there is an unmistakable Rhino chassis that was used as a building block for the hover vehicle. We’re not 100% sure this will still be called a “Rhino” because it’s been souped-up with Primaris Grav tech and loaded with what looks to be missile? sponsons on the sides.
Either way, GW could be retrofitting all of their future Rhino kits to fit this new unit that’s on the way.
Forge World Kicks Rhino Doors to the Curb
While Most of Forge world’s product line is geared towards the Horus Heresy, these Rhino upgrades are totally viable in 40k. That being said, could this all be in preparation of a new Rhino kit coming? (It wouldn’t make sense for Forge World to keep bits for a unit that’s about to change).
Note that MK1 door upgrade sets from Forge World, for the most part, are still in stock, along with some of the newer Rhino door designs as well.
So What Could Be Next For The Rhino?
The Rhino isn’t a unit that’s used all that much in the meta right now. However, it’s definitely iconic due to being around for all these years. GW has already said that they wouldn’t be getting rid of normal Space Marines entirely. But with Primaris support steadily growing (and getting a lot better) we still have yet to see GW show any kind of love to normal Marines since the start of 8th.
So with the old 30k Rhino coming back into 40k for the Sisters announced, the mystery Primaris vehicle using the Rhino chassis spotted, and Forge World’s Last Chance to Buy section being full of Rhino doors, could this be the end of the Rhino as we know it?
