Top 3 40k Army Lists That Rose To The Top This Weekend

space marine wal hor tourneyMarines who? You won’t believe what the Top 3 Warhammer 40k army lists were at the Geekfest Arcs of Fire tournament over the weekend.

The Geekfest-Arcs of Fire 40k tourney was held to ITC standards and brought quite a few players (thirty to be exact) under one roof to roll dice. With ITC points on the line, here are the three lists that crushed the competition.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we are able to look back at the events as if we were there ourselves.

3rd Place: Astartes Soup- Nathan Chow

RUMORS: Next Space Marine Chapter Codex Named White Scars

The White Scars broke out the Incursors, being the cheaper alternative to Infiltrators, as well as dumping nearly 300 points in Centurions with flamers to advance and turn up the heat on the enemy.

Next, the classic White Scars post-supplement unit, the Vanguard Vets with jump packs, storm shields, and chain swords were taken. A second Battalion was taken just to add more CP to the pool with cheap Scout squads led by a Chaplain and Librarian (surprisingly in Terminator armor).

Finally, an Iron Hands Successor Spearhead Detachment was brought for more access into a new Stratagem tree. Three Eliminators were taken (because they’re just too good to pass up) and a Thunderfire was brought. The Thunderfire is a bit of a CP drain, getting two Stratagems for itself. However, being able to shoot twice and halve the enemy’s movement is so strong.

2nd Place: Tau- Leondardus MacEachern

Moving into 2nd Place, Tau still got it! And they didn’t have to spam Drones to operate well either. Commander Shadowsun led a Battalion of Fire Warriors and a single Pathfinder squad. This was mainly a support detachment for the others.

Moving into another Battalion, More Fire Warriors were brought with two burst cannon Riptides brought. For a little protection, they loaded up on three squads of Drones. However, instead of capitalizing on ALL the potential Drones and a third Riptide, Leonardus also put over 400 pts toward a unit of Broadsides with missile pods.

Finally, a Vanguard was brought with three Marksman coming with Markerlights to help paint the enemy target so Leonardus’ force got all the benefits for shooting.

1st Place: Aeldari- Ben Pelzer

Starting off, big man Eldrad himself led a Battalion of Dire Avengers and a fat squad of Guardian Defenders loaded with all the shuriken. Two Wave Serpents were also brought along because the amount of punishment these things can take for the points is absurd. Plus, the fact that they fly makes them great objective grabbers and harassers that can fall out of combat.

A Spearhead was then taken bringing Dark Reapers for some tank-popping firepower and Night Spinners, (Just better Shuriken on a Wave Serpent platform). With the leftover points, an Airwing detachment was taken bringing in two Crimson Hunter Exarchs with a Hemlock Warithfighter. The Wings of Khaine ability coming from the Crimson Hunter Exarchs make them a fantastic area-denial unit as they can pivot, move, pivot. If two are adjacent to each other on the board, they can just move in each other’s place effectively denying an entire portion of the map from deepstrike.

Overall, great job!

Do you have a similar list to one of these top three? How long have you been practicing with your list?
