3rd Place: Chuck Arnett – Leagues of Votann
2nd Place: Scott Ketcham – Sisters of Battle
1st Place: Marshall Peterson – Orks
It’s worth mentioning that Marshall has been accused of cheating by multiple sources. He allegedly received several warnings from the Games Workshop staff but did not end up being disqualified. This has kicked off a bit of an uproar in the competitive community, as he also received a Golden Ticket for his win.
This, however, is his army list, such as it was. We discuss the issue in the podcast video below.
Marshall’s winning Orks were led by Snikrot to pair with a unit of Kommandos, Ghazghkull for most likely the best solo model in the faction, and a Warboss for buffing a unit of Boyz melee hits.
Troops had three units of Beast Snagga Boyz for a standard close-range set of units that are pretty cheap per model. A Trukk and Battlewagon then offer transportation for them (or other units) and also bring a few extra shots for the later rounds if they don’t get blown up.
Two units of Flash Gitz and Gretchin keep the cheap models coming, with Gretchin only being 4 pts per model.
The more significant threats are three Kill Rigs,, which bring some hurt and mobility to help wherever they are needed. A unit of Meganobz and normal Nobz offers some more dedicated melee models to make charges and kill off any unit they can.
The list then ends on some mobility with two units of Stormboyz to hopefully tie up some enemy ranged models for a turn or two.
The US Tacoma Open showcased some impressive displays tactical Warhammer 40k gameplay with these army lists. Orks, Sisters, and Leagues of Votann claimed the top spots, showcasing a potential shift in what players should consider.
Overall, studying these army lists can provide valuable insights and inspiration for your own army-building for both newer Warhammer 40k players and pros alike.
