Warhammer Conquest is a great place to start your collection and broaden your horizon into the hobby world. Getting into Warhammer can seem daunting to a new person when there are so many factions and so many units.
Conquest made it a little easier for newcomers to begin their journey.
What Does Conquest Offer?
Conquest is designed for new hobbyists to get their feet wet with Warhammer models, building, and painting. The magazine even gives tips and advice on hobby secrets to bring them up to speed.
In all reality, it’s a great offer just from the information inside the magazine alone. Looking back, I wish someone would’ve told me to thin my paint before I started.
Hobby Tips Come at a Price
The first copy of Conquest is only £1.99, but the price only goes up after that. the Subscription standard is £7.99 per issue and this is a weekly magazine. That’s almost £32 a month.
Warhammer Conquest: What You Get For Your $$
Unfortunately, Conquest is only available for UK hobbyists but that doesn’t mean that it can’t branch out into other areas of the world! £32 a month translates into $41 monthly.
However, it’s important to remember that GW’s “Regional Exchange Rate” is about 1.64 instead of the actual currency exchange rate from GBP to USD.
Ultimately, you get all of this if you stay subscribed to Conquest. A full-sized Death Guard army and a Primaris-focused company. We all know how expensive terrain is and look at how much of that you get as well!
Conquest’s Actual Value
Millests Wargaming Blog actually broke down the value of the subscription.
Even if you take the worst case scenario and you use the value of the Dark Imperium starter set in to account its still roughtly £360 just for the blue models.
If you assume thats the case as well for the nurgle side you are looking at £720, so nearly an £80 saving and thats before you start on the terrain. I had got a rough cost in my head of the terrain being £220 or there abouts so that pushes it to £940.
£940 converts into $1,210 worth of value if you apply the actual exchange rate to the USD, and well over $1500 if you use the conversion rate for buying from Games Workshop in our own currency.
That’s not even mentioning the paint and other hobby supplies you get along the way. Bottom line is if you’re a new player, consider subscribing to Conquest and learn the basics on the models they give you. You’ll start to see progression on your models as time goes on and it’s a great deal at the end of the day.
If you’re not in the UK, don’t lose hope. Conquest may not be available to you right now, but there are still plenty of helpful articles and videos from seasoned hobbyists that are more than happy to help, right here on this site.
