Psychic Awakening is gearing up to move into book two now that we’ve seen the Aeldari support. Here’s what we would love to see Chaos get in Warhammer 40k
The first wave of Psychic Awakening gave the Aeldari a new book, new models, and a dose of better rules. GW’s treatment for the Aeldari sort of set the stage for what other factions might be getting.
Taking a look at the latest Chaos Marine Legions spotted in the latest Psychic Awakening video from Warhammer TV, here’s what may be on the way.
Chaos Marine Legions Insignias Spotted
While there was a mix of Loyalist and Chaos chapter, the focus is on the Chaos Marines. Of the symbols shown there were:
- Night Lords
- Word Bearers
- Wold Eaters
- Iron Warriors
- Alpha Legion
- Emperor’s Children
Warhammer Community confirmed the new supplement and more at the Blood & Glory event late Saturday, November 2nd.
In the 41st Millennium, things are getting intense. We’ve got characters new and old joining the fray, the hotly anticipated arrival of the Sisters of Battle, and of course the ongoing saga of the Psychic Awakening. With Phoenix Rising now on shelves, this epic conflict has officially begun – and we’re just getting started. The next book in the series sees us turn to the Imperium and their chaotic enemies in Faith & Fury.
This tome will see the Psychic Awakening’s effects begin to take hold in the Imperium, as the Emperor’s most faithful warriors go head to head with the Heretic Astartes. What’s more, the book will include codex supplement-tier content for the Black Templars, Night Lords, Alpha Legion, World Eaters, Emperor’s Children, Iron Warriors and Word Bearers.
So per the symbols on their teaser, it looks like we’ll be getting updates for the remainder of the traitor legions sans Black Legion (updated in Vigilus) and the two with existing Chaos supplements; Thousand Sons, and Death Gaurd respectively.
Plus another recent rumor looks to be confirmed as Chaos is indeed getting a new Sorceror model that was the subject of a Rumor Engine many, many months ago…
Combining visual touches from classic Chaos Sorcerer models with the aesthetic of the new Heretic Astartes, this malevolent mage will be the ideal leader for your forces in the battles to come.
With so many Chaos Marine sub-factions popping up, I.E not Black Legion like what the focus of Vigilus II was, we would love to see some of the old Chaos legion kits updated, and some new rules for the Legions as well!
GW Passed Over Chaos Legions in Vigilus II
You might remember the hype around Vigilus Ablaze, as this was GW’s focus on Chaos earlier in the year.
We saw an entire series of daily rumor engines popping up to hype the Chaos releases. Once we saw what they were, we quickly found out that everything was for generic Chaos. Nothing was specialized. Berzerkers and Noise Marines were untouched. However, now that we’re seeing explicit Traitor Legion insignias pop up, this might be clues to GW’s second pass over Chaos in a new way either this holiday or into the new year perhaps.
New Legion Kits We’d Like to See
Keeping the ball rolling from Psychic Awakening, there are plenty of old Chaos kits that could use a rework. Berzerkers and old Noise Marines need to be scaled up along with plenty of other units.
Speaking of Berzerkers, they could really use a helping hand in terms of Stratagems and new rules. We saw the Banshees get some 3D6-inch charging shenanigans out of their Psychic Awakening volume. And in a meta where shooting is king, Berzerkers definitely need some speed. Even a simple 9″ move across the board for units with the Berzerker keyword would be a step in the right direction.
As for Noise Marines, we saw that GW hasn’t forgotten about them. Although it’s not exactly what we were wanting, we did see Slaanesh get some attention. While this Noise Marine looks sick, he comes with a character pricetag. Ultimately, some non-finecast Noise Marine kits would be great right about now. Even if they looked half as cool as this guy.
Old-man Lucius is about due for another model as well. While he’s still in finecast, he’s also showing his age in his static pose. It’s not even close to the same level as Abaddon or Typhus.
What About Other Legions?
As for the other Legions without sub-faction-themed models like Berzerkers and Noise Marines (Yes you can still take them in other Legions but you know what we mean here), it would be cool to see some extra rules/Stratagem support for Warp Talons and Raptors for the Night Lords. Maybe some especially beefy Greater Possessed models for the Word Bearers. They are the first Legion to test out the possessed Marine-method dating back to the Gal Vorbak in 30k.
With all of this covered, there are still some great questions out there. What will the Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion get? Is it outside the realm of possibility for each Legion to get a brand new unit eventually? Will older models just get reworked? Or will we get new rules for the legions similar to what we just saw with the loyalist chapter supplements?
