Word Bearers top the SoCal Open 2023 tournament; here is a look at the top Warhammer 40k army lists from the event!
The tournament is over, and now we can look at which lists managed to secure a place at the top! Check out what these winners brought into their armies.
Word Bearers Corrupt Top 3 At SoCal Open 2023: Best 40k Army Lists

3rd Place: Ruben Zhao – White Scars
2nd Place: James Carmona – Black Legion
1st Place: Arthur Tu – Word Bearers
Arthur’s winning Word Bearers were led by a Chaos Lord for cheaper stratagems and a solid body, plus 2 Dark Communes for Invulns and a single-use hit and wound buff.
There is also a Master of Possession below for a solid movement buff and feel no pain,
Battleline brings in two units of Cultist mobs for the Dark Communes to pair up with and some cheap bodies.
Transports have triple rhinos for cheap transports with a few extra shots each round.
Two units of Accursed Cultists add another option to pair up with the Communes and are slightly tougher bodies than the standard mob.
Chosen, come in with two units for some very efficient models with good stats and great weapon options.
Follow that with two units of noise marines, and you’ve got some solid, but still cheap, ranged firepower.
A unit of Obliterators adds some durable ranged firepower, and two units of Nurglings add super cheap wound soakers!
