Flashback Friday – Dusk Raiders Part 2 – The Infantry

Hello everyone! Brandon here from GMM Studios with a little blast from the past.

This is Flashback Friday, where I revisit old armies I have painted from the past.  I have painted thousands of models and who knows how many huge armies on commission, and each one holds a special place in my heart.

A little sweat, a lot of love, and some collaboration with another person and who knows what you can create!

I enjoy looking back every once in a while at the photos and remembering the joys and struggles, the hard work and the pure enjoyment of making someone’s vision a reality. But enough of that emotional stuff, let’s get on with it! I miss you, baby!

Up this week I have for you some Dusk Raiders!  Pre-Heresy, Pre-Primarch even.  I painted this army last summer, so it isn’t that old, but I do miss it already!  I really enjoyed working on it and it has so much character, I just had to do an article on it. Because this army is so large, I am splitting it up into a couple articles.  For our second article, let’s take it to everything infantry.

Five “counts as” models for gameplay purposes.  Abaddon, Lysander, Praetorian, Typhus, and Marneus Calgar give many HQ options but still match the army better than the actual models would.  The customer and I had a lot of fun coming up with these simple but effective conversions.

The rest of the HQ options, from a Chapter Master to several ranks of Apothecaries.

A Command Squad with Storm Shields.  Empire Knight shields were picked for this role.

A veteran squad.  The army makes use of a color scheme that incorporates more red with higher rank.  The lowest tactical ranks have a single red pad.  This goes on up to a split color scheme at the highest.

A ton of Siege Shield marines.  This is quite impressive as a whole marching across the table!

Three Contemptor Dreadnoughts.  One higher rank, and two secondary rank models.

Assault Marines with shields.  Again making use of the Empire Knight kit shields and Forge World accessory kits for the special and power weapons.

A lot of heavy support marines – missles, lascannons, and plasma squads.

A massive amount of MkII and MkIII armor rounds out the Troops choices of this army.  Mostly bolter Marines, with some additional close combat oriented Marines.
Hope you enjoyed my walk down memory lane.  Keep up with my latest work on Facebook, or connect with me on the blog!  GMM
