Don’t miss all the new 40k rules and stratagems from Pariah the final book in the lineup of Psychic Awakening. We’ve seen characters redesigned and new tricks to come.
Gathering everything we know on the final book, here is all of the confirmed content coming inside the final book of Psychic Awakening. If you were curious about what details have been shared, take a look at this.
GW Reveals Table of Contents for Psychic Awakening: Pariah
We’ve got a layout of the new book showcasing the Table of Contents. Overall, it looks like surprisingly, the Inquisition is what’s going to make the most of Pariah. While Szeras and Ephrael are still in the book (counting toward Necrons and Sisters of Battle), they’re only getting about two pages-worth of support. Whereas the Inquisition is getting a whopping 19 pages.
Now, before the internet explodes it’s worth mentioning that the Inquisition support is probably going to be 90% recycled from the White Dwarf from a few months back that gave the Inquisition more rules, and kept armies from breaking faction rules as well.
We’ve already seen this with rules recycling/updating from White Dwarf that just hit the Officio Assassinorum inside War of the Spider already.
Pariah Contents & New 40k Datasheets Lineup SPOTTED!
Szeras is coming with a new model and it only makes sense for him to have a new datasheet. However, his rules have remained largely elusive.
Inquisitor Draxus
As you’d expect either being a human in power armor, she’s T3 with a 3+ armor save. Her Shuriken weapon (called Dirgesinger) is an assault 2, 2-damage gun that has a -3 AP characteristic of wounds on a 6+. The Assault mechanic on the gun is nice, but at only two shots, don’t expect to get too many kills with her.
She’ll really shine as a support unit with her paralysis grenades. You can charge her into a scary unit(s) along with another decent melee squad and she’ll force a single enemy unit she’s within 1″ of to fight last under normal conditions. While we’re talking about her combat capabilities, she’s also probably not going to be a pushover. Judging by her model, she’s got a powerfist that should be the expected SX2, -3 AP D3 damage at -1 to hit.
Lastly, for her psychic support, Shang, her pet will let her smite be a forgettable power. That means she can pick out characters from a crowd and deal D3 mortal wounds if you want.
Other New Inquisitor Rules
Warhammer community also mentioned some older rules from the November White Dwarf, but also what appears to be two new stratagems, and one Psychic Power from an offshoot Ordo branch.
For the last bit of coverage on Inquisition support from the Stream, there’s the Alpha-Class Psyker Strat. At 1CP, you can pick a non-named Inquisitor. They’ll know one additional psychic power and can attempt to deny an additional one in the Psychic phase.
Note that you only KNOW an additional psychic power. You can’t actually cast an additional one. That would put a regular Inquisitor up to Cast 1/ Deny 2 (knowing smite +2 from the Telethesia discipline).
That’s not a terrible ability, especially for fans of the Inquisition who have some dope converted Inquisitor models. However, with all the other named Inquisitors out there and their bag of tricks they offer, we probably won’t see this come into play too much.
Clandestine Operation Stratagem seems pretty fun to get a direct bead on your quarry with either a psychic inquisitor or some monkey shooting (or both), and screams 9th edition mechanics! Pretty tactical indeed.
The Ordos may be getting more Psychic Powers from the ones that they just got in November. But as you can see below Warding Incantation, appears to just be a copypasta of Power Though Knowledge, so it’s unclear if this is a typo or a whole new tree of powers that were unlocked.
Ephrael Stern & Kyganil
Right away, one thing that sets her apart from her other Sisters of Battle is that she’s S4 and T4 (over the normalS3/ T3). Plus, with six wounds and four attacks, she looks more like a Primaris statline than anything!
Oh, and she’ll be slapping like one too. At S5 -3AP and 2-damage, she can slice right through most power armor barring an invuln save and be able to one-shot Intercessors and Hellblasters. If she gets ahold of the new two-wound Pteraxii units for the Admech, she’ll really glide through them (they won’t even get an armor save).
Every turn, she’ll also be able to laser blast something with a mortal wound trick that can’t be denied. Daemonifuge just needs a 5+ on 2D6 to deal D3 mortal wounds. If it’s 9 or more, you’ll be doing D6 mortal wounds. Oh, and if you’re going against Chaos, you’ll add +2 to the result of the 2D6.
Moving onto her partner in crime, Kyganil, aka The Pariah
Kyganil is slightly faster, however sits at S3 and T3 as you might expect any Harlequin. While he’s squishier he’s still got four attacks with weapons that are great for clearing screens.
While this guy might have four attacks, when he piles in to fight, he’s actually getting eight. He’s going to be a whirlwind of papercuts, but the biggest weakness is his strength characteristic.
Where this guy will really earn his keep is with the Mysterious Saviour rule giving Ephy a 5+++ FNP. Note that he just has to stand next to her and he doesn’t even take the wounds! That means for players going against these two, your best bet is to kill Kyganil with his measly 6+ armor save before starting work on Ephy.
Sadly, you can’t have either of them be your Warlord. However, they do have a free deepstrike mechanic thanks to Kyganil using the webway.
How Can You Field Them?
Thankfully, they’re not like Valerian and Aleya (who were originally totally unplayable with mismatched keywords). You can actually use them in ANY Imperial Detachment and they don’t take up a slot.
Ephrael Stern and Kyganil are a great addition to any army and they can be included in any Imperium Detachment without taking up a slot.
Why would GW give the Imperium the ability to take Ephrael and a Harlequin in ANY list as well as not taking a slot?
It’s simple really…
It looks like this new kit is the 40k version of Gortrek from Age of Sigmar who was also a “must-have” for any order list as well.
Pariah Includes New Mission Twists
As for everything else in the book, the GW team on Twitch mentioned there being thematic scenarios of fighting through a Necron tomb world as well as details on what it’s like to fight on other areas rarely thought about like Daemon worlds, a Hive world, etc.
These are just a taster of the rules twists you can add to your games.
Pariah includes new Theatres of War rules which let you transform your battlefield into one of the blasted war zones seen throughout the Psychic Awakening saga.
At the end of the day, while the Sisters of Battle and Necron presence in the book is made up of a single unit respectively Pariah is still looking to be a good book. Especially for true fans of the Inquisition.
