Today we continue to go over the changes from the 2020 General’s Handbook with a focus on the Destruction faction and the point changes.
Let’s continue our dive into the new General’s Handbook after going over the changes to the order and death factions in the last couple of weeks. Today we are going to see what kind of point changes and buffs we have going on with the Destruction Faction.
2020 General’s Handbook: Destruction Changes
2020 General’s Handbook
Gloomspite Gitz:
These guys have a ton of point changes this go around. Especially for the non-meta lists which I think is awesome.
- Shootas down 10 points
- Arachnarok Spider with Flinger down 50 points
- Arachnarok Spider with Spiderfang Warparty down 30 points
- Skitterstrand Arachnarok down 60 points
- Dankhold Troggboss down 50 points
- Loonboss on Mangler Squigs down 20 points
- Webspinner Shaman on Arachnarok Spider down 20 points
- Brewgit, Spiker, Boggleye, Shroomancer, Scaremonger down 60 points
- Dankhold Troggoths down 30 points
- Fellwater Troggoths down 10 points
- Rockgut Troggoths down 20 points
I love these point drops as I think the spiders and Troggoths are the most interesting models in this line. I hope this will help people play with more non-goblin horde unit spam in the coming year. With the pretty substantial spider and Troggboss point drops you can fit a lot more models into a spider or Troggoth themed army.
Ogor Mawtribes:
This army just got an errata back in July and we are using those points rather than the General’s Handbook. (GHB has the wrong points for them)
- Thundertusk Beastriders down 30 points
- Frostlord on Thundertusk down 40 points
- Huskard on Thundertusk down 40 points
This is pretty good as Ogors are a little costly for what you get. Though I do wish they had dropped more of the non-Beastclaw Raiders as they underplayed. I do like the errata making the Icebrow Hunter a little bit better and I think you could have some fun with them and the Frost Sabres (though find a different model if you can).
Still, if you want a low model count army that can be somewhat competitive, Beastclaw raiders are for you. (Also the start collecting boxes are the best value for money)
Editors Note, I had a blast painting these frosty fatties a few years back. Check out the whole showcase here.
Orruk Warclans:
Arguably the most popular of the Destruction warbands (Ironjawz was brought into this book) they had quite a bit of point changes in the July errata. So, if you play these guys you won’t need the GHB 2020 as those points are wrong.
- Maniak Weirdnob up 20 points
- Orruk Megaboss down 10 points
- Orruk Weirdnob Shaman up 10 points
- Savage Big Boss down 10 points
- Orruk Ardboys up 10 points
- Orruks Brutes down 10 points
Bit of a mixed bag for these guys. With the models the Ironjawz players were using went up a little bit and some of the other non-pure Ironjawz units went down. Seems to be more tweaking rather than an overhaul, I do not think you will see much of a difference in play from Orruk players. It might help the Savage Orruk players a bit with the Big Boss, Shaman, and Weirdnob dropping in points, but it’s not by much.
Sons of Behemat:
Considering we don’t have the models or a book out yet, so yea, just a tease from GW I guess. But thought it was worth a mention.
Wrap up
That it’s for the Destruction armies right now. I really wish they would release a few more stand-alone armies for them but GW seems to be pretty focused on Aelves right now. Who knows maybe they will lump the new Shadow Aelves into the Destruction army to round them out a little bit. Sons of Behemat are intriguing, but I think they are going to function like a mercenary army rather than a pure Destruction army.
Next time we will finish off going over the last factions from the Chaos Allegiance to round off this year’s GHB.
