New AoS Old Foes Looncurse Style Bundles Revealed

aos-army-bundles-looncurseIn the new AoS Old Foes bundles, GW is focusing on Sylvaneth and Gloomspite Gitz with some Looncurse art prints- check it out.

Originally they said say each week they will be doing a different themed Old Foes army bundle focusing on some famous rivalries for Warhammer 40k or AoS. Each set of armies would only be available for one week, so if you see a bundle you like, you won’t have too long to get it.

The first listing was on October 5th, and the second listing just appeared on a Tuesday seven weeks later, with no accompanying Warhammer Community article like the first.  Then they took another break, but it looks like they are starting them back up again.

This week’s themed bundles are pretty expensive and the only value comes from the Start Collecting box, meaning the only real value comes from the art print…

Here’s a look at the first couple we’ve seen so far:

40k Old Foes Necrons & Space Marines Themed Army Bundles

To celebrate these epic rivalries, Games-Workshop.com is bringing themed Old Foes army bundles to the webstore, each available for just one week. These are a new army project in their own right, and they bring you within striking distance of a free Sergeant Castus miniature this month.

A Necron Overlord headlines this bundle with his bodyguard of ten Immortals, three Tomb Blades, and a Night Scythe from Combat Patrol: Necrons, along with a squad of ten Necron Warriors and their Ghost Ark transport.

They ended up retailing from GW for $235 and $240 respectively which equated to zero value over retail price.

Fast forward to now, and more bundles have appeared!  Here are the latest offerings:

Glade of the Broken Vines: $261

In addition to all the units found in Start Collecting! Sylvaneth, you’ll also get a Warsong Revenant to lead them, and a fierce retinue of Kurnoth Hunters. This bundle also includes a free Battle of Ayadah art print featuring the clash between the Gloomspite Gitz and Sylvaneth deep below Chamon.

This bundle includes:

– 1x Start Collecting! Sylvaneth, containing:
– 1x Sylvaneth Treelord
– 1x Branchwych
– 16x Sylvaneth Dryads

Plus
– 6x Kurnoth Hunters
– 1x Warsong Revenant
– 1x Old Foes Gloomspite Gitz vs Sylvaneth Art Print

At least this has the Start Collecting Box and the art print because they both give you some value. But you could always just buy the boxes you want from the bundle on their own.

Light of the Bad Moon Warband: $260

This bundle also includes a free Battle of Ayadah art print depicting the clash between the Gloomspite Gitz and Sylvaneth deep below Chamon.

This bundle includes:

– 1x Start Collecting! Gloomspite Gitz, containing:
– 1x Loonboss
– 3x Rockgut Troggoths
– 10x Cave Squigs
– 2x Squig Herders

Plus
– 1x Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig
– 10x Squig Hoppers (can alternatively be built as Boingrot Bounders)
– 1x Mangler Squigs (can alternatively be built as Loonboss on Mangler Squigs)
– 1x Old Foes Gloomspite Gitz vs Sylvaneth Art Print

Pretty similar in terms of value to the box above, but hey, if you need everything inside at least you get an art print with it.

Are the Old Foes AoS Army Bundles Worth it?

If you are looking for straight value, no. However, they do have value based on the savings you get from the Start Collecting box that seems to be part of these offerings. Keep in mind that locks you into the extra kits included on top of that, which may or may not be of value to you.

Kinda makes you wonder why all the hoopla for a series of “limited” releases that you can literally purchase a cheaper version of (with technically more value) in the form of the Start Collecting boxes themselves…
