RUMORS: New Chaos Space Marines Codex Rules Compilation

Legionnaires Chaos Space Marines Rumors

From this new Chaos Space Mariners Codex rules rumor complication below, the big standouts are Legionnaires being the new name for the CSM troop choice.

Other highlights from the datasheet rumors section:

  • Chosen 3w can use TH

  • Stratagems something to ignore invuls (4chan leak, so take with a grain of salt, leak said EC chosen could destroy Custodes hitting with TH on a 2+ and with strat ignore invul saves)  NL deepstrike strat for jump packs, DS turn 1 NL vox scream disables AURAS
  • Other: IW Ectoplasma Forgefiend can hit on 2+ and does flat 4 damage

Also after the reveal for the new Chaos options in the Kill Team Nachmund box set the predictions of said Legionnaires squad look to be 100% spot on.

New Chaos Space Marines Raptors & Warp Talons 40k Rules Datasheets

Found in the core book/free rules download on WHC, we’ve got a legend of symbols for what the new datasheets will be looking like.

9th edition core rules 2

Spotted on Reddit these new IKEA simplified rules are appearing in box sets with the new art inside. Let’s compare them to the old Chaos 40k rules Chaos Space Marines Datasheets and see what’s changed.

Raptors old sheet

Raptors ikea sheet

New Rules

New Bonuses:

  • +1 to Wounds (was 1 now 2)
  • +2 to Attacks (was 1 now 3)
  • +1 to Leadership (was 7 now 8)
  • Special Weapons are now listed on the sheet (with some various changes)
  • Plasma Pistol/Rifle doesn’t have an overcharge profile
  • Grenades missing from new sheet

      What we don’t know:

      • Unique abilities? (Leadership ability?)
      • Deepstrike?
      • Missing Plasma Overcharge Profile?
      • Faction-wide rules and impact on the unit?
      • Synergy with other CSM?

Overall, Raptors only got better! Assuming they don’t get obliterated and made obsolete by point increases, these are looking to be great shock options going forward!

All we have to do now is wait and pray GW doesn’t touch their point values too much. Especially considering their weakness tends to be how easy you can just kill them.

          What we don’t know:

          • Unique abilities? (Deepstrike with anti-overwatch?)
          • Faction-wide rules and impact on the unit?
          • Synergy with other CSM?

Overall, Warp Talons also only got better! Assuming they don’t get obliterated and made obsolete by point increases, these are looking to continue being a staple for CSM players!

Hopefully, they keep their anti-overwatch rules too, because that was a powerful aspect of their kit in the past.

With the option for a grenade launcher and the pistol gets stronger with more shots. Other than that, it looks pretty similar, but we’ll have to see if they still get the extra attack in combat.

                      chaos possessed

Whether you’re a devout Word Bearer eager to share your body with a creature of the warp, an unfortunate victim of your Legion’s Master of Possession, or simply want to field a spectacular squad of devastating daemonkin, these warped and mutated creatures will fit into any force from the new codex.

                      New Chaos Preview

                      New Chaos Preview

Heavy-hitting half-daemons offer some monstrous melee power, making them a great way to back up a gathered mob of Cultists. Fortunately, there’s a new box of miniatures on the way to represent those motley mortals foolish or ambitious enough to throw in their lot with the Dark Gods.

New Chaos PreviewFirst up are a totally new kit for the Possessed that is scaled up to 40mm bases and stands shoulder to shoulder with a Primaris in Gravis armor. The kit looks like there will be many bits, and they even mention it is a big, multi-part kit.

                      New Cultists

Chaos cultists 2Next up, the Cultists are grabbing a new standard troop kit that honestly looks pretty sweet. They don’t mention how multi-part they are.

                      Chaos cultists

Vile abominations or blasphemous zealots – can’t decide? Why not both? The new Accursed Cultists represent the insane variety (and varied insanity) that overcomes mortal followers of the Traitor Legions, with a frenzied array of misshapen Mutants.

                      Accursed Cultists Mutants

                      Chaos Accursed mutants

These gaggles of unholy heretic are accompanied on the battlefield by the horribly warped Torments – twisted beyond recognisability by dark rituals and daemonic influence, these abominations lurch forward to pounce on their enemies with a bestial hunger.

New Chaos PreviewHowever, this isn’t everything cultists are getting. Next up are the Accursed Cultists Mutants, who have begun mutating with the dark warp energies.

They have been a part of the IP for a while, but it’s nice to see them grab models. Also, they mention they will be horde style, so we expect them to be quite cheap but have some nice strength.

                      Accursed Cultists Torments

                      accursed cultists

These grosteque guys lend a classic Lost and Damned feeling to any army of Traitoris Astartes – and they’ll be a welcome addition for any Chaos Lord who enjoys commanding a Cultist-heavy horde of mortal rabble, whether it’s an Alpha Legion rebel cell or the indentured helots of the Iron Warriors.

New Chaos PreviewBut wait, there is more for the cultists!!!! These Torments actually go along with the models above in a big unit. One of these can rip apart some Space Marines, so these actually give you some punch to the army.

New Chaos Cult Leaders, The Dark Commune

                      Chaos Dark Commune

This squad is the festering heart of any Chaos cult, and offers a profane platter of prayers and powers. The priestly Cult Demagogue leads the congregation, accompanied by the psychic Mindwitch and inspiring Iconrach, all guarded by two Blessed Blades, whose sword skills keep unbelievers at bay.

New Chaos PreviewThe new HQ choice and the leaders of your cultist insurrection is the Dark Commune. You get a psyker, banner, two bodyguards (Blessed Blades), and the Cult leader.

                      GW-Previews-chaos-space-marines

And probably the most important teaser, nearly two years since the launch of 9th Edition 40k we have a confirmation Chaos will indeed be 2 wounds from the video transformation.

                      Huzzah!

GW Confirms New Chaos Space Marines Profile & Rules

                      Chaos Space Marines Stats

Legionaries are ferocious in close combat, with millennia of bloodshed as the perfect teacher. The new codex brings this viciousness to life by granting three attacks to each heretic – or four for the Aspiring Champion. That’s right, each Legionary fights with three times as much fury as before. The Great Rift definitely lit a fire under their power-armoured boots.

Welp, we saw them going to two wounds, but gaining two extra attacks and an LD really may really make a huge difference. If literally nothing else changes, this might be enough to bring them into 9th.

Unfortunately, we do have to do our due diligence and mention that this is different from the statline GW revealed during the end of the AdpetiCon video. Truth be told, sometimes it’s even hard to believe what GW tells us even, as they do make typos mistakes, and go back and change their content with no notice to the community.

                      GW-Previews-chaos-space-marines

This was the video from AdeptiCon, and either they didn’t tell their graphics guy to bump those attacks to 3, or they just recently made the decision…

Either way, we hope these rules stick, because when you add in the new balance sheet Armor of Contempt rules, Chaos looks to already be in a great place for it’s release.

                      New Weapon Profiles

                      Chaos Space Marines Stats 2

Kill Team’s Balefire Acolyte is sticking around as a unit upgrade for your rank-and-file squads – why should the Thousand Sons be the only ones to put apprentice sorcerers to work? With this insidious PSYKER on-side, you’ll be able to Smite your foes and turn basic troops into psychically-empowered killing machines.**

The Balefire Acolyte isn’t the only upgrade making a return from Kill Team – new melee weapon options are coming too. Take the Legionary Butcher’s mighty two-handed chainaxe, which takes a moment out of its busy operative-killing schedule to crack open tough targets in Warhammer 40,000.

With 3 attacks and S+4, -4AP, and D2, you can really deal a lot of damage! Then, giving your normal squads Smite is pretty sweet. Lastly, the Daemon Blade dealing Mortals with the additional attacks is always sweet.

From the looks of this that extra sprue that came in the Nachmund box looks to be needed in the new Chaos Space Marines rules, so fingers crossed they release it separately, and dont paywall it in Nachmund or an even more expensive box of legionnaires in the future.

GW Reveals New Chaos Space Marines Possessed 40k Rules!

                      Possessed

While the Heretic Astartes are normally able to exert their will over these daemonic parasites, the cacophony of battle and spilling of blood awakens the beast within. In a spasm of transforming limbs, they race off to tear their foes to shreds  – just check out that blistering 9″ Move characteristic.

With 3 Wounds, 5 S/T, and 5 Attacks, they are nothing to be messed with! If you can get a full unit of five into combat, you’ll be getting at least 25 attacks! Then with the 9″ move, hopefully, you’ll be able to get them there before being shot down, but the 3 wounds should really help with that.

                      Possessed rules

These exceptionally speedy amalgams of muscle and metal are also terrifyingly strong, with a wild assortment of limbs that give them a whopping five attacks. Their hideous mutations are as deadly as they are disgusting, allowing the Possessed to tear apart enemy Space Marines to get at the gooey innards.

Fielded in units of up to 10 models – including a diabolical Possessed Champion with an extra attack – these turbo-threshers are ideal shock troops. They can also take a real beating. The ceaseless shifting of warped armour and anatomy gives the Possessed a formidable Toughness 5, as well as 3 wounds and a Save of 3+ – and as half-daemons, they even get a 5+ invulnerable save.

With D2 and -2 AP, they should be able to dish out the damage in combat, not to mention they also grab a 5+ Invulnerable save. They are shaping up to be quite strong!

Chaos Space Marines Traitor Legions Rules Revealed!

It also looks like these match most of the rumored rules leaks from earlier in the year as well…

Chaos Space Marines Traitor Legions Rules: Black Legion

                      Legion Rules Chaos

Although their colleagues might not agree, the Black Legion are the foremost power among the forces of Chaos. Their leader, Abaddon the Despoiler, demands nothing short of excellence from his fanatical Black Crusaders, ceaselessly drilling them in the devastating speartip assaults that earned their former Legion top-dog status during the Emperor’s own Great Crusade.

Getting +1 to hit with your whole army is pretty insane, however, it does have to be the closest enemy or a charge. Still, if you can get this with the majority of your army, they will be hitting on 2’s almost all the time. Meaning you’ll be 16% more accurate!

                      Word Bearers

                      Legion Rules Chaos 2

As you might expect from the guys who started the whole ‘fall to Chaos’ trend, the Word Bearers are experts at channelling warp entities. The most strong-willed (or foolishly naive) of their kind can even rent out their body to powerful daemonic forces in an Exalted Possession, gaining unnatural strength… at the cost of maybe becoming a fleshy marionette for eternity.

These are some serious buffs, however, we don’t really know what else they will have, so it might not be taken all that often. Either way though, buffing a character this much has to be good.

                      Night Lords

                      Legion Rules Chaos 3

Taking the example of their fallen Primarch, the Night Lords love nothing more than to creep into position before throwing a surprise party for their victims. This year’s gift? An outrageously bloody assault! While In Midnight Clad, these bat-eared terrors can use the shadows to weave between curtains of incoming fire – despite being eight-foot supermen.

For only 1 CP this can be quite strong (even with the serious reductions in CP) and could hopefully keep your high-cost units alive!

                      Iron Warriors

                      Legion Rules Chaos 4

Undisputed champions of breaking nice things, the Iron Warriors prize destruction of a more calculated sort than their warp-wracked cousins. These Masters of Demolition are a dab hand at drawing up mid-battle plans for dismantling all kinds of vital infrastructure – trust the former IV Legion to find a route to victory through the ruin of their enemy’s works.

This could be hard to actually achieve since your opponent gets to set them up, however, if they set them up in their deployment zone, or near, you’ll gain almost double the VPs for each. Pretty interesting mechanic and could make for some fun games.

                      Alpha Legion

                      Legion Rules Chaos 5

Where many of the Traitor Legions are screaming berserkers or chanting demagogues, the Alpha Legion are subtle manipulators par excellence. Their battles are carefully planned, full of traps and schemes – and with the help of the Hydra’s Wail, a sorcerous jamming gadget sneaky enough to put Phobos kill teams to shame, they can shut down any enemy’s command structure.

This is basically the Vect stratagem, and with fewer starting CP, it could really make a big difference throughout the game.

                      Emperor’s Children

                      Legion Rules Chaos 6

The Emperor’s Children, on the other hand, are all about being seen. These sinister sensationalists are true maestros in the art of combat, each a dark reflection of their Primarch’s obsessive perfectionism… and while their skills are immaculate, the Unbound Arrogance of their greatest champions can get them in serious trouble. Are you ready to gamble for greatness?

Honestly, this is fun, but it kind of stinks. Because if your opponent just always picks 3, and you pick 2, 2 extra attacks are okay but nothing crazy for a Warlord Trait. Then, if they happen to get it right, you get nothing. Still, it is really fun and adds a little wrinkle to your games.

The question is what else will we see for the followers of the dark gods this year?

Some of those are super spicy for sure, and some are not. Either way, we know new Chaos Space Marines are on the way. Check out all the pages of the new Chaos Space Marine Codex rumors above!
