These Horus Heresy Sons of Horus Rules are Merciless

Sons-of-horus-rules-heresy-forge worldMore previews are here for Horus Heresy and this time we’re taking a look at the powerful Sons of Horus rules for the new edition.

With the release of the starter and new edition imminent, it’s time for GW to start revealing new HH rules. This time around, they are focusing on the starters of it all.

Warhammer Community showed off some new legion-specific rules; let’s check them out!

New Horus Heresy Sons of Horus Rules are Merciless

Sons of Horus

The Sons of Horus are close-up killers who enjoy a good charge as much as any frothing World Eater or exsanguinating Blood Angel. Unlike them, however, the XVI Legion don’t succumb to the red mist of battle – these Merciless Fighters strike fast and often, overwhelming their opponent at their weakest points with an opportunistic blitz.

Having minus -1 to hit them is obviously strong, especially because it goes off if they either are charged or charged. Then, even your vehicles will get a bunch of extra attacks, so pretty sweet.

Sons of Horus rules

The Sons of Horus are masters of war – as you’d expect from the Warmaster’s Legion – with an instinct for independent operation and a knack for sudden violence. While the stolid Imperial Fists hole up behind their walls, these consummate Death Dealers anticipate and retaliate quicker than anyone. The enemy can’t shoot you if you shoot them first.

This is really strong because you actually get to shoot first at +1 BS. While your opponent still gets full shooting attacks, your unit does as well. So even if you are about to take a big amount of damage, this is a good way to get one big round off before your unit is about to be killed.

Horus Lupercal

Horus LupercalThey didn’t show off rules, but luckily there were some leaks from Trident Wargaming, so we know what he does!

Horus RulesComing in at a whopping 600 points (Lorgar comes in around 400 for reference), you know these are going to be some insane rules! First up, his statline is just out of this world good, and when he ascends, they only get better! But oh yeah, you read that right, when he’s ascended, he’s 1,000 points!!! Then, he gives a giant army-wide buff to give everyone +1 LD and Stubborn.

Horus Rules 1First up, getting once in a game, you get an extra reaction in every phase! This can really turn into a giant swing turn where you just totally take the opponent by surprise and deal an insane amount of damage.  Then, he can never be hit on better than a 4+ and be able to split his attacks however he wants. On top of that, he will be hard to kill with a 2+/3+.  Not to mention he has a Strength 10 Maul with AP2, Brutal, and sunder! Lastly, his talon is also super strong.

Horus Rules 2Now, let’s see what you get for ascending. First, he gets a second life, albeit with one wound, but still, he can come back into play and keep rampaging! Then, you can bump him up to 10 S and T once per game, but you do have to take Perils for it, however, you can pass those off! Then, you can then corrupt any infantry, calvary, or Dreads in your army for +25 points when he is ascended. Lastly, he also gains a 4+ FNP (giving him a 2+/3+/4+ and comes back with one wound, so basically unkillable), Rage (3), A Dark Fate, The Power of Chaos Eternal, and the Spreading Corruption. So yeah, quite the host of rules for one model!
