The new Lord Solar Leontus is striding into battle soon; here are a few redesigned looks and more on what people are saying about the model!
The Imperial Guard has a new mini to lead them into battle, and he is actually on the cover art for the army box! This is the last of the promised reveals, but who knows what else we’ll get before the new Cadia Stands army box set actually drops.
Let’s take a peek at the brand-new model and then check out what people online are saying about a more sci-fi version.
New Imperial Guard Lord Solar Leontus Mini Revealed!
If you missed it somehow, the new model was unveiled by Warhammer Community along with a new rule and the codex art for the book coming in the Cadia Stands army box!
As the Lord Commander Solar, Arcadian Leontus sits among the highest echelons of the Imperium, boasting an unimaginable roll of titles, peerages, ranks, and probably a whole gaggle of attendants tasked solely with ensuring that his horse has enough cyber-hay.
The model itself is interesting, and the base is definitely cool (is that a dead Chaos Reaver Titan Head?). It also looks like they left plenty of room on the cape to really go crazy with some painting effects.
A Less Fantasy & More Sci-Fi Lord Solar Is Spreading Online
Spotted on r/TheAstraMilitarum, this half-joke picture of Yarrick on the horse instead has started to gain some traction.
First things first, credit to the photoshop-er, the darker palette does instantly make this model look 100x more grim-dark, and some people on the original post felt the same way.
Valhallan Lord Solar Looks Great!
Mockup of Severina’s head on Lord Solar in my Valhallan scheme
This redesigned and ‘shopped version of Lord Solar by Reddit user mud_goblin gives us the feels as well. It’s really shocking sometimes how just a change in paint scheme can really do so much for the look of any new Games Workshop model.
It seems like the major complaint from most comments is that the horse is robotic sure, but other than that, the original looks very similar to an AoS model! With Lord Solar being the face of the Imperial Guard going forward (he’s even on the new cover), you’d expect him to embody the grim reality of the faction, not some glorious holiness/hope for them going forward.
The versions above really bring back the overall aesthetic of Lord Solar to Warhammer 40k and not Age of Sigmar, in our opinion.
There’s Still Some Love Online for Lord Solar
Our friends at Sepulchre of Heroes are firm supporters of the new model.
The point he made with this meme is clear, the golden/holy theme is and has been in Imperial Guard artwork before! That being said, the design is clearly a point of contention.
Even within our Instagram post, you can find supporters and detractors split about the model’s design…

Warhammer 40k and AoS are two distinct universes with very clear thematic and era differences. It’s a little bit of a shame that GW didn’t draw on those differences more for this new Solar.
That being said, it’s still a fantastic mini, and if nothing else, will make for a very easy model conversion for anyone who likes it!
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is whether or not you enjoy the models you hobby and play with!
