GW Announces World Championships of Warhammer 40k

gw-tournamentsGW has announced the inaugural World Championships of Warhammer for Warhammer 40k, AoS, Kill Team, and Warhammer Underworlds.

GW has been running the US Open series for a few years now, but it looks like they are ramping things up. This will not be just for the USA, though; there will be 170 qualifier spots from 18 different countries. However, the final will be held in the USA, just something to keep in mind.

It looks like they are still adding qualifier events at this time, but we expect most of the major tournaments around the USA to be a part of the qualifying.

GW Announces Inaugural World Championships of Warhammer

This comes from this Warhammer Community post.

World Championships of Warhammer

For the past two years, the US Open Series has come to a head in a finale at the end of each season. Behind the scenes, our Warhammer Events Team has been working with the worldwide community of independent organisers, with an eye to making this year’s finale a truly global event.

The 2023 tournament season will culminate in just that – the World Championships of Warhammer.

This incredible finale will be fought between winners of some of the biggest and best Warhammer events from around the world. Qualifying players will be invited to the finals in Atlanta, Georgia, in the USA, from November 16th to November 19th.

This is honestly a huge announcement from GW, and it will be quite interesting to see how the event runs. The event won’t be until November 2023, but we expect them to announce qualifying events soon (they did mention about three tournaments, which we’ll see below), as that’s not too far off in terms of a giant tournament.

The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta Georgia.

Qualifying players will come from official Warhammer events, like the US Open series and Warhammer Fest, as well as independent events like the Las Vegas Open, AdeptiCon, the London GT, NOVA Open, and other major events.

At the time of writing, we have more than 170 qualifier slots from 18 countries across 3 continents. This includes Australia, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the US, to name but a few – and we’re still looking at expanding further! Keep an eye out for news of the full list of qualifying events in the coming weeks.

Well, it looks like if you’re going to LVO at the end of the month, you’ll have a chance to qualify! Other than that, they announced a few more, but that won’t be all the events. They are actually calling for tournaments to become qualifiers.
