chaos rumors new wal hor warhammer games workshopNew rumors are here with some spicy news on what Games Workshop has been up to with the noticeable lack of new releases over the last few months…

If you’ve been paying attention to the past few months of Games Workshop’s new release schedule, basically, nothing has really happened.

Worse still, according to this rumor, it looks like we still have weeks to wait until any more new releases hit store shelves well into January 2023.

Editor’s Note: this was written on December 23rd, 2022, and has already proven to come true.

Games Workshop Getting Ready To Drop a Tidal Wave of New Releases in 2023

New Imperial Guard 2According to an industry insider, Games Workshop is saving up (or stacking) new releases for January and February due to fear of a drop in revenue from the forecasted economic downturn in 2023.

Let’s start with the actual rumor from the industry insider, then break down the evidence.

They are reporting that Games Workshop is stacking releases for January and February because of the fear of a downturn in sales due to economic factors at home and abroad.

The UK is expected to be hardest hit, as its economy may slump well into March of 2023 due to increases in energy, transportation, and food costs.

What supposedly is being discussed at GW HQ is that their sales could also be doubly hit.  Normally in January and February, sales naturally have a downturn; however, when you stack the economic factors on top of this yearly trend, the prospect of current quarter profits seems to sour even more…

This really lines up with all the new releases on deck still, as the industry insider said there is no real reason for a lack of releases (with everything they have in the pipeline) other than them trying to stack the deck and keep people buying when they usually would because of paying off their holiday spending, or due to inflation on daily necessities, etc…

Let’s look at how Games Workshop may try to schedule things to keep profits and interest high throughout the winter months.

RUMORS: Games Workshop New Releases Into 2023

December- Well, this one is quite obvious, Christmas! Even without releases, people will get gifts, buy for their armies, etc…

So, Games Workshop doesn’t really have to release anything “new” (and they seem to know it just fine).

New Imperial Guard 5January–  No new releases until the middle of the month, with the New Chapter Approved book for 40k and General’s Handbook dropping after the LVO cutoff to keep things tidy for the biggest tournament around.

February– Guard second wave. With how long it’s been since Guard really got a big rework, this will get plenty of people buying. They might even do a staggered release throughout the month, where a few sets are released each week.

We could also see the new World Eaters come out. They will also most likely do an army box of some kind, which means the World Eaters release could flood into March.

March– Finish off World Eaters and probably start building hype/releasing late in the month what they previewed at LVO. This would also be a perfect time to drop some minis from Arks of Omen and carry them through with what they have now lined up.

April into Summer: Space Marines 2.0 may carry Games Workshop across their fiscal year finish line of May 30th, 2023, as hobbyists may be enticed enough to buy regardless of the prospect of a 40k edition change in Summer 2023.

So Many Releases Just Waiting

As we said, they have an insane number of kits just waiting for release right now. The rules are totally out for Guard, the World Eater’s codex has been leaked a ton, and Arks of Omen has already had a giant miniature previewed.

Plus, now they have the General’s Handbook and the Imperial Guard that some folks think could have easily into December (about the time it took to release Votann after their box), but they are really trying to carry through.

Tin-foil hats say we won’t see the Imperial guard’s official release until after the LVO cut-off, perhaps even early February even.

Then, when you add Slaves to Darkness, Gloomspite Gitz for Age of Sigmar, Arks of Omen, and the rumored Space Marines 2.0 release, the next couple of months look stacked full of releases!

So Games Workshop may fill their moat with the tears of hobbyists’ wallets everywhere over the next few months as a tidal wave of releases may be headed our way, seemingly all at once.
