Pokemon TCG Sells Out of All Available Trading Card Product!

By Travis Pasch | May 4th, 2023 | Categories: Pop Gamer Culture

ebay-sold-out-pokemonGenerally, when a new Pokemon set comes out, it sells out quickly, but the latest expansion set has completely sold out in Japan and has the company promising better production.

As we said, it’s nothing new (especially in Japan) when a new set releases that it gets bought out in no time. However, they recently seemed to have cleared out pretty much all of their stock. The new packs that started it all have not been released in the USA quite yet; but the Clay Burst and Snow Hazard expansion set in Japan just went insane!

This is obviously a production issue, and the company is promising to do better, but either way, it seems crazy that are literally out of everything now there.

Amid Shortages in Japan Adults are Being Banned From Buying Pokemon Cards! (May 1st, 2023)

This is from the @hareruya2pokeca Twitter

Here’s the translation, but it is Google Translate, so it might not be perfect.

[Product information] Packs are sold only for customers under junior high school students on the 1st floor. Sales will end as soon as the packs for the day are sold out * Up to 10 packs per person per day *Please refrain from purchasing on behalf of anyone other than the person himself/herself, including parents.

While this was only spotted at one major retailer so far, this is a very interesting decision and might be something that spreads to other stores in Japan for Pokemon.

While the TCG culture in Japan is quite different, with many players who actually pledge to only get cards at a single store, this store could have easily quickly flipped these cards for a huge profit.

Generally, the collectors go out the second these hit shelves and scoop everything up.  So it’s good to see them letting younger kids actually get a chance to get the cards.

Obviously, someone could pay kids to grab the cards for them, but this is better than nothing!

Here in the States, stock levels are not the best, however, besides limiting daily pack purchases, we haven’t heard of any store restricting sales further.

There are plenty more hot sets on the horizon, like Pokémon 151, that releases on 16 June 2023 in Japan, with throwbacks to the original 151 Pokémon may lead to more nostalgia-filled runs on inventory.

Pokemon TCG Sells Out of All Cards in Japan

Pokemon Cards Sold out 4The two sets were released simultaneously, and they came with a checklist to see if you really grabbed all the cards you could. The Clay Burst pack actually had two extremely expensive cards, and are already going for over $300 on eBay (we’ll look at the packs below)… but the longer the drought goes on, the higher the cards could go!

The company did put out a statement, but it’s been translated with Google; so just keep that in mind.

It’s pretty wild to see them acknowledge that everything is out of stock! We can’t really remember the last time we saw a company actually run out of every product they have. If they just sold out of the two new packs, it would make more sense, but that doesn’t seem to be the case

Hopefully, for all people in Japan, they get things running more smoothly as this just increases the scalper market. It’s just crazy to see a company sell entirely out.

Pokemon Cards Sold outYou can grab some of the packs on eBay, but obviously, they will be quite more expensive than when they inevitably drop in the US and other parts of the world.

Hopefully, when these do release in other places around the world, the prices will come down for everyone.

What do you think about a collectible company selling out of everything?
