Star Wars has been getting a ton of love lately with new editions, units, and rules coming to three different games. Let’s look at the latest!
Star Wars Legion has been pumping out expansions and units, Armada is getting the Executor, and X-Wing is getting a brand new edition. Look at the latest for everything coming to Star Wars.
Latest From Armada
Gold Squadron Podcast’s Twitch stream showed FFG’s Star Wars team unveiled the Executor. The original video has since been taken down but the internet managed to snap a few pics.
We know that the ship is a giant compared to other ships from all the times we’ve seen it in the movies. Well, it looks like they got the scaling right because it’s a behemoth.
There’s also some exciting times ahead for X-wing players. Take a closer look.

X-Wing Expansion Packs

Take a look inside the expansion packs for X-Wing spotted at GenCon. Do you see the sheer amount of playing material you get inside each box? People have been a little reluctant to shell out $50 on an expansion just to really be able to play the game, but let’s talk about how good of a deal this is.
Sure, the initial cost is high. But do you see the stack of cards players get inside each box? The cards don’t have any point costs or anything like that on them and the players use the online X-wing Squad Builder to make a list. The clever thing about doing this is that all the points for upgrades and pilots are IN the builder. The developers can change the points around at any time to make sure the game stays balanced. So What are we getting at?
Well, if/when they do update the points, it doesn’t make the cards in the expansions obsolete (again) and it doesn’t force you to buy a brand new pack of material just because something got updated.
The last edition of X-wing also lasted for seven years with only one update to the damage deck in a new starter. Now changes to the game can be made in real time via the Squad builder app. $50 per expansion to update your collection for the last edition that lasted seven years, is probably still good value, although it has a little bit of a sticker shock because it’s coming all up front.
Take a look at Games Workshop and Warhammer 40k. There have been about three different editions in the last seven years and those books that are required for the game aren’t cheap. The game developers for Star Wars X-Wing seem to know what they’re doing and they’re doing it with your savings in mind in the long run…
Spotted at GenCon
Notice anything different in that last pic? There are some Imperial Specialists Personnel and Rebel Specialists Personnel that we haven’t seen before. Both of the squads look to be basically the same ability wise.
There are two officer-looking operators, an R2D2-type droid as well as a medical droid. Could these units be adding a new aspect to the game soon? We don’t know the rules for them just yet but stay tuned. We are sure we’ll be seeing them in the future.
