2 New Undefeated 40k Army Lists For Christmas

space marine walpaper bigCheck out these three 40k army lists, with two new undefeated ones, that rose to the top of the meta for the weekend before Christmas.

The latter part of 2019 has definitely been solely focused on Space Marines. And while they were almost irrelevant at the start of 8th, they’ve definitely enjoyed their time in the spotlight. With that said, other factions are beginning to learn how Marines work and rising to the top as well.

Here are the top three lists from the WarGamesCon presents event at Game Castle.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

3rd Place: Noel Gonzales- Tau

wargamescon tau 2This Tau list took inspiration from a classic list for the faction. Bringing a few Battalions for CP batteries, the real firepower came from Riptides. While most Tau lists run three, this list only ran two and brought a squad of missile/rail rifle Broadsides instead for a bit more tank-popping firepower.

wargamescon tau 1Drones were crammed into the list where ever they could fit with Pathfinders also being brought to paint targets with markerlights that absolutely needed to die. This is the epitome of a wax-on, wax-off list in 40k right now. Markerlights paint a target, Riptides and Broadsides wash, rinse, and repeat.

Great job overall.

2nd Place: Wyatt Turk- Space Marines

Wyatt finished in 2nd place taking the McPick Two Space Marine rules. These guys got a free reroll to hit/wound per squad as well as counted as being in cover from 12″ away. Marked as an Ultramarines Successor Chapter, these guys had all the Warlord Triats and stratagems that the boys on Macragge have without having all the named characters.

A single Brigade was brought with a few Scouts and a squad of Infiltrators starting the game mid-board and hopefully on an objective while the rest secured their backfield deployment zone.  For Elites, this is where the list got pretty interesting. A single Warsuit was brought as well as an Aggressor Squad and Contemptor with 2x twin lascannons for anti-armor firepower. The Company Champion mainly acted as a cheap speedbump for the enemy.

Moving on, Suppressors were taken for the Fast Attack slot obviously because they’re the cheapest unit for the firepower in that battlefield role. And finally, a Contemptor geared with plasma cannons was brought and accompanied by a single Eliminator squad and Thunderfire Cannon for the anti-movement Stratagems.

Overall, this list looks like just Space Marine good stuff, for the most part only bringing one of a unit. Great unique list.

1st Place: Antonio Cedeno- Necrons

Incredibly, Necrons came in 1st place only working off of 5CP. This list even brought Necrons over Immortals as a Troops choice. Jumping in a bit deeper, Necrons were loaded into Ghost Arks as a part of a Spearhead Detachment and supported by three Doomsday Arks and some Tesserract Arks. The C’tan Shard of the Deceiver even hit the field allowing his units to redeploy if needed.

To add some aggression to the list, three Doom Scythes were taken and blasted the enemy while the rest of the force moved up to objectives or sat still in the back (like the Doomsday Arks) and melted enemy armor. Great list and way to go for putting your own spin on the classic Necron list we’ve been seeing lately.

What are your thoughts on these three lists? Do Necrons have more potential than people really think? What is a Space Marine’s best tank-popping unit these days?
