Retailers Are Capitalizing On GW’s Rogal Dorn Tank Mistake

Rogal dorn bottom featureRetailers are capitalizing on GW’s spicy design decision, cranking out bottom upgrade bits for the Rogal Dorn Battle Tank!

We’ve all heard of the bottomless tank by now, but the market did let it go unnoticed. A few retailers were already making bottom bits and upgrade sets for the tank, which look great. You can always make your own out of plasticard. However, if you don’t feel like doing that, you can pick these up.

The best thing may have been if GW made the part and added it to their Cadian upgrade set. However, they didn’t. So, let’s check out your options to fill that bottom gap since you may have a few Rogal Dorn Battletanks now that the Imperial Guard Battleforces are here.

Cadian Defence Force – Imperial Guard $230 €180 £140

There was some back and forth on this box since it was spotted early. However, the Rogal Dorn tanks are pretty awesome, and this box can help you make the tech switch to the new tanks. Or, if you’re starting an army, this is a great place to do it.

  • Command Squad                             35€ $45
  • Cadian Shock Troopers                 2×40€ $50 ($100)
  • Rogal Dorn Battle Tank                 2×80€ $100 ($200)

Army Box Retail Price: Total MSRP: 275€ $345 in USD

Savings versus $230 box price: $115

This box has pretty solid savings just based on the Rogal Dorn Tanks being around the same value as the purchase price, giving you the rest of the miniatures essentially for free!

Retailers Are Capitalizing On GW’s Battleforce Mistake

Well, there you have it: the bottom of the tank is basically empty! As you can see from the product page on Games Workshop’s site, the kit is only three very tightly packed sprues.

So, it seems like something had “get cut” to make the tank fit on that number of sprues for the $90 price point. By comparison, the Baneblade is $170 for nine sprues.  However, the new combined Leman Russ kit with all weapons is still only three sprues for $65.

Obviously, if you really wanted to, it probably wouldn’t be a considerable issue to convert your own piece up, but if you’re spending this much on a plastic model, hobbyists seem to want it to have a bottom!

Rogal Dorn Bottom Floor Plate Hole Filler Bits: $5.99

Dragon Forge is one of the first companies to have the piece for sale here in the States! Honestly, for the price, it’s hard to beat!

GW mistake

Taro Modelmaker Rogal Dorn Tank Bottom Bits: £2.95

Rogal dorn bottomThis epic upgrade is now available in resin from Taro Modelmaker.  Here is what he had to say about this product:

Probably the most controversial product of 2023! Dorn’s Bottom (panel) is now in store. Cast in high quality resin and priced so it won’t break the bank! Designed to drop in place so no worries if you’ve already assembled your tank…I’ve got you covered!
While there are those that believe it’s pointless do remember we all have our own preferences esp in this hobby. Personally I couldn’t wait to slap this panel over that gaping hole.
Before more of you ask no I don’t sell or plan to sell the STL.
Head over to taromodelmaker where you can find this and LOADS more.
