christmas-battleforces-2022-warhammer-40k-games-workshopGames Workshop revealed eight new 2022 Warhammer Christmas Battleforces as we look back at the last six years of these box sets.

Games Workshop recently dropped all sorts of teasers about the upcoming 2022 Christmas releases, including something spicy about battleforces!

Obviously, there were some rumors disproven about what armies will actually be included for Battleforces in 2022, but there’s plenty to see now for what is coming this year for Christmas!

We’re reaching the end of a massive year for Warhammer, from the shock return of the Leagues of Votann to the explosive growth of the Gnarlwood in Ghur. It’s almost time to wrap it up with another cracking Christmas, and there’ll be no half measures – more festivities, more Battleforces, and more Warhammer than ever.

More… BATTLEFORCES?!!

8 New Christmas 2022 Battleforces are Coming For Warhammer 40k

Thanks to Warhammer Community, we know there will be a whopping eight Warhammer 40k Christmas Battleforces in 2022.  That is huge, as starting in 2016, there were only eight battleforces altogether for both AoS and Warhammer 40k total!

So expect more on these very soon, and get ready to save those hobby dollars for what is normally the first week of December release date!

Looking at this list, a few boxes (especially for 40k) come out almost every year, like Space Marines and Nids. It seems that lately, AoS has newer factions, whereas Warhammer 40k is a mix of both newer and older (like Guard in 2020).

Obviously, some repeat SM (some flavor of Marine), Chaos (of sorts) Tau, and Nids. There almost always seem to be two Xenos, with a wild card of one extra Imperial or Xenos box.

So for the lineup of Battleforce boxes in 2022, we expected to see two Imperials, two Xenos, a “Wild Card,” and hopefully some kind of Chaos, perhaps Thousand Sons or Daemons.  Turns out there look to be no Xenos boxes at all!

Also, it’s interesting to note that Necrons in 2020 and Orks in 2021 were actually probably the newest released factions to grab a box (even though it had been months since their new codex dropped at that point).

aos-Christmas-battleforces-age-of-sigmar-2021For Age of Sigmar, it could be newer reboots, as they have done it for the past two years. Where it feels like 40k is using it to clear out older stock, AoS seems to be using these releases to push newer books.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see something like Sylvaneth. It also looks like the current vanguard boxes are all current releases, so we may not see those factions get a Battleforce just yet.

Remember previously, there are generally only four boxes for AoS, so the choices are slightly more limited and more pronounced for them.

Where Do the Battleforce Contents Come From?

    Shieldbreaker Strike Force

This is an important question when looking at what factions could be next. It’s unclear if sprues are new production or taken from existing slow-moving products and reboxed into battleforces.

Figuring that out is big deal because if they are just existing sprues, we are almost relegated to factions with older boxes that aren’t selling. If Games Workshop makes new sprues for these (especially this year), newer factions have higher chances.

Unfortunately, we don’t know for sure, but most rumors seem to agree that they are generally older sprues put into new boxes that are not selling well.

    Disproven Rumors & Unlikely Armies

As we said, there was a list of disproven rumors for this year’s Battleforces, but some of the armies included were pretty obvious, with Space Marines etc.

So, while those rumors were fake, Space Marines are super likely, but on the other end of the spectrum, we’re definitely not getting Leagues of Votann, Imperial Guard, or World Eaters.
