8 New Christmas 2022 Battleforces are Coming For Warhammer 40k

Are the 2022 Warhammer 40k Christmas Battleforces Worth it?
Overall, they all have about the same value with a spread of about 20 bucks (which is about $20 higher than in 2021). Either way, whatever battleforce you pick, they will all have decent value inside. So that point, it just really just comes down to if you “need” the minis.
Some Battleforce boxes are more focused on a certain aspect of an army, while others are more varied. If you look at the Adeptus Custodes box, almost all the value comes from the Custodian Guard, so if you really want a lot of troops, it’s a good buy.
However, the boxes for Chaos are pretty decent, but a huge value comes in the way of the big characters, so if you already have them, it doesn’t have too much other value.
Regardless, they are all decent buys considering they kept the same $210 price as last year.
40k Space Marines Battleforces: Pricing & Value Breakdown Review
These Battleforces releases in January 2023 are all for the first founding chapters, as Warhammer Community unveiled the new box sets and what you can score in each!
A new year of Warhammer means Armies on Parade is on its way, and we’re kicking things off with New Year, New Army. And as luck would have it, many awesome battleforces have been released over the Christmas holiday – an excellent starting point on your next Warhammer project. But while the Imperial Fists and Raven Guard got their due, several other First Founding chapters were nowhere to be seen.
That changes now.
Four brand-new boxes stuffed with Space Marines are coming to a Warhammer store near you very soon, featuring the Iron Hands, Salamanders, White Scars, and Ultramarines. Let’s have a look at what’s inside.
Since we know the prices are the same as the Christmas 2022 battleforces now, let’s take a look at the overall value breakdowns!
Iron Hands: March of Iron Strike Force Battleforce $210
Dreadnoughts are some of the most powerful weapons in the Space Marines’ arsenal, and the March of Iron Strike Force is all about getting them into the thick of the fight. Two hulking Redemptor Dreadnoughts are backed up by the engineering prowess of a Primaris Techmarine and Iron Father Feirros himself, while 10 Intercessors follow in their wake to secure the ground.
- 2 Redpemtor Dreadnoughts $140
- Primaris Techmarine $38
- Feirros $42
- 10 Intercessors $60
- Iron Hands Upgrades and Transfers Set $27 (assuming one set- actual contents not confirmed as of this writing)
Total Box MSRP: $307
Total Value Versus the $210 Box Price:$97
This can be a good way to go if you’re starting an Iron Hands army. However, a decent amount of the value comes from the upgrades, so just something to keep in mind.
Salamanders: Warforged Strike Force $210
Plunge into the fires of battle with Adrax Agatone and a solid wall of 20 resilient Intercessors. Then hammer the anvil of war with the gravis-armoured might of three Eradicators and three Aggressors. The Warforged Strike Force is as Salamanders as they come, and provides you with all the sturdy CORE Infantry you need to make good use of the chapter’s new secondary objective.
- 20 Intercessors $120
- 3 Eradicators $55
- 3 Aggressors $55
- Adrax Agatone $42
- Salamanders Upgrades and Transfers Set $27 (assuming one set- actual contents not confirmed as of this writing)
Total MSRP: $299
Total Value Versus the $210 Box Price:$89
This one will have less value than any of the Christmas Battleforces (especially considering the upgrade sprue); however, this has a lot of useful models inside, so it should be worth a pickup to Salamanders players!
White Scars: Storm of Chogoris $210
If your ideal defence is a blisteringly fast offence, the Storm of Chogoris is the battleforce for you. Built around a dependable core of six Primaris Outriders and two Invader ATVs led by a Primaris Chaplain on Bike, this express delivery of pain discards weak and feeble legs for the mechanical purity of the wheel.
- Six Primaris Outriders $120
- Two Invader ATVs $90
- Primaris Chaplain on Bike $50
- Kor’sarro Khan $42
- White Scars Upgrades and Transfers Set $27 (assuming one set- actual contents not confirmed as of this writing)
Total MSRP: $329
Total Value Versus the $210 Box Price:$119
This one has a lot of value, and even at $210, it will be worth a pickup if you need some bikes and ATVs, however, if you dont play White Scars, you will have a Khan on foot to trade away!
Space Marines: Scions of Macragge $210
It wouldn’t be a Space Marine party without the Ultramarines, and the final battleforce shows them at their versatile best. You get objective control from 10 Intercessors, supreme firepower from 10 Hellblasters, melee mastery from three Bladeguard Veterans, tactical genius from Marneus Calgar, and psychic dominance from Chief Librarian Tigurius. Two members of the Victrix Guard have even joined their Chapter Master for the ride.
- 10 Intercessors $60
- 10 Hellblasters $60
- 3 Bladeguard Veterans $55
- Marneus Calgar and Victrix $60
- Chief Librarian Tigurius $42
- Ultramarines Upgrades Set $16.50 (assuming one set- actual contents not confirmed as of this writing)
Total MSRP: $293.50
Total Value Versus the $210 Box Price:$83.50
This one doesn’t have quite the same value, and considering you have $100 in value in characters, if you already have those minis, this might not be worth the buy. However, if you don’t have either of the characters, it is totally worth the pickup!
Are the New Warhammer 40k Space Marines Battleforces Worth it?
With the price of these Space Marines Battleforces staying at $210, a lot of the value comes from the upgrade sprues and characters, which means the value isn’t super high. Especially considering these are for certain chapters, it seems they aren’t too high value, but they are perfect for hobbyists starting those specific chapters.

Are the 2022 Warhammer AoS Christmas Battleforces Worth it?
Overall, they all have about the same value, but these are a little more spread out than the 40k ones, with some almost $50 apart in MSRP of models inside.
Either way, no matter which one you pick, they will all have decent value inside. So that point, it just really just comes down to if you “need” the minis.
Some are more focused on a certain aspect of an army, while others are more varied. For example, if you look at the Skaven box, almost all the value comes from the big blocks of 40 rats. So if you really want a lot of troops, it’s a good buy.
However, the box for Kruleboyz is pretty decent, but a huge value comes in the way of the big characters, so if you already have them, it doesn’t have too much other value.
Regardless, they are all decent buys depending on the actual retail price, which was $210 in 2021

Looking at this list, a few boxes (especially for 40k) come out almost every year, like Space Marines and Tyranids. It seems that lately, AoS has newer factions, whereas Warhammer 40k is a mix of both newer and older (like Guard in 2020).
Obviously, some repeat SM (some flavor of Marine), Chaos (of sorts) Tau, and Nids. There almost always seem to be two Xenos, with a wild card of one extra Imperial or Xenos box.
So for the lineup of Battleforce boxes in 2022, we expected to see two Imperials, two Xenos, a “Wild Card,” and hopefully some kind of Chaos, perhaps Thousand Sons or Daemons. Turns out there look to be no Xenos boxes at all!
Also, it’s interesting to note that Necrons in 2020 and Orks in 2021 were probably the newest released factions to grab a box (even though it had been months since their new codex dropped).
For Age of Sigmar, new factions are up for grabs this year, as Nighthaunt and Sylvaneth are fairly new for 2022. While it feels like 40k may use these boxes primarily to clear out older stock, AoS seems to be using these releases to push newer books in most cases.
Remember previously, there were generally only four boxes for AoS, so getting seven is really awesome even though it’s still one less than 40k!
Where Do the Warhammer Battleforces Box Set Contents Come From?
This is an important question regarding what factions are coming each year in Battleforce boxes. It’s unclear if sprues are new production or taken from existing slow-moving products and reboxed into new battleforces.
Figuring that out is big deal because if they are just existing sprues, we are almost relegated to factions with older boxes that aren’t selling. If Games Workshop makes new sprues for these (especially this year), newer factions have higher chances.
Unfortunately, we don’t know for sure, but most rumors seem to agree that they are generally older sprues put into new boxes that are not selling well.
Disproven Rumors & Unlikely Armies
As we said, there was a list of disproven rumors for this year’s Battleforces, some of the armies included were pretty obvious, with Space Marines, etc.
So, while those rumors were fake, Space Marines are super likely, but on the other end of the spectrum, we’re definitely not getting Leagues of Votann, Imperial Guard, or World Eaters.
