How to Paint Power Swords Quickly: Painting Tutorial
You’ll only need four colors for this, so even if you don’t have a big paint collection, you can do this. You’ll also need some masking material, such as puttyor masking tape. He actually uses both in the video.
First, you want to either take the arm off the model or mask off everything you won’t be painting. Then, paint your sword in the darkest color you’re using (if you’re going with a different scheme than him, just pick three colors from light to dark).
Once dry, mask the sword off with one half of the blade open, and reverse it on the back half.
Step 2:
Now, take your mid-tone color and gently spritz the sword going from the center and very gradually moving outwards. He does this in a decent amount of passes. Just be sure to build the color up nicely.
Step 3:
For this, he mixed in white to the mid-tone and did a smaller highlight just right up the middle. Now, he lets the paint dry and re-masks the sword, but now with the recently painted part covered up.
Step 4:
Now, you want to take the mid-tone, but instead of going from the middle working out, you work from the bottom and top inwards, leaving the darkest part in the middle. He then does a second highlight, but just on a much smaller area.
This is 90% of your sword done, and you can see how cool it looks already!
Step 5:
To finish the sword up, we need to edge highlight. He takes the white from before and just does a light edge highlight on the edges of the sword. Then finally, he does a line right up the middle.
For the power conduits, he uses Vallejo Aluminum and just picks out the little conduits on the sword. And that’s it!

Overall this gets you a great sword without much effort!
