Without further ado, let’s get into the new changes for Sylvaneth! Mainly, Alarielle, Awakened Wyldwood, and the new Warsong Revenant model.
Alarielle the Everqueen
First up the Queen Aae herself (and her giant beetle of course). Her ranged attack no longer has a degrading range but is 6″ less than the previous top bracket to balance out. The ranged attack also starts at flat 5 damage instead of a constant d6, which is probably a buff, even if an average of a d6 is better than her lower brackets.
At the beginning of the game, she will be popping enemies with that ranged attack. The Great Antlers got a little better, hitting and wounding at 1 better than before, all while keeping the same damage chart, making for a strickly better melee option.
- Lifebloom now also heals herself a huge chunk instead of just all allies.
- Talon of the Dwindling got a huge change, now if it connects you roll another dice, if it’s a 6, the model is auto-slain, but if not, then it doesn’t deal damage.
- Metamorphosis now deals damage on 3+ instead of 4+s during the resolution, making it much more likely to get a Wyldwood summoned.
Overall huge changes came to Alarielle, with her new cost at 740 pts, it’ll be interesting to see if players like her new changes.
Awakened Wyldwood
The biggest change to the Wyldwood is probably that it doesn’t care about flying anymore, instead, now models with 10 or more wounds aren’t affected by the line of sight rule. Also, Sylvaneth models themselves are not affected! Meaning you can abuse the cover as a (mostly) one-way window now. The Vengeful Spirits rule has to be compiled now to include the extra damage when magic is present.
All in all, the Wyldwood just got even better, but it cant protect your big models anymore. Its point cost is unchanged though.
Warsong Revenant
Thanks to his 3″ range attacks, this model can actually attack over some of your smaller troops and hit relatively well at 3s to hit and wound. He also has a basic Bravery buff for allies and debuff for enemies, which is nice to have with larger squads of troops.
Perhaps one of Revenant’s biggest rules is that he also has a 4+ wound negate which is huge and not that common in AoS, making him surprisingly tanky. He also has the benefit of being a wizard, adding a ton of utility options to your list by knowing all the Sylvaneth spells too.
At 275 pts this new model might be pretty good.
Do you like the look of these changes? Are you going to pick any of these models up?
