It is the holiday season, and if you’re lucky enough to get one of the AoS battleforces from the goblin in red (or a loved one), you are in for a treat this year. A good new year’s resolution would be to expand that army to 2000 points and get it painted!

Expanding Your AoS Holiday Battleforces to 2000 Points: What To Buy Next
In this article, we will look at the Daughters of Khaine, Gloomspite Gitz, Nighthaunt, and Orruk Warclan boxes, and I will try and expand them as cheaply as possible
Daughters of Khaine: Khainite Slaughter Coven

Let’s look at how many points you get in the box:
- Slaughter Queen: 130 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Hag Queen: 110 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Bloodwrack Shrine: 200 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- 5 Blood Stalkers: 180 Points, No Unit Type
- 5 Khinerai Heartrenders: 95 Points, No Unit Type
- 5 Doomfire Warlocks: 145 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Sisters of Slaughters: 135 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- Total 995 Points
This is a pretty solid starting force getting you halfway to your 2000-point army, and if you make your Bloodwrack Shrine your general, you get two battleline units instead of one.
Here is what I would buy next for the Daughters of Khaine AoS battleforces to make a full army of 2000 points.
- Slaughter Queen: 130 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Hag Queen: 110 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Bloodwrack Shrine: 200 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- Melusai Ironscale: 115 Points Leader 4 of 6
- 5 Blood Stalkers: 180 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- 5 Blood Stalkers: 180 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- 5 Khinerai Heartrenders: 95 Points, No Unit Type
- 5 Doomfire Warlocks: 145 Points, No Unit Type
- 5 Doomfire Warlocks: 145 Points, No Unit Type
- 20 Sisters of Slaughters: 270 Points, Battleline 3 of 3 Reinforced 1 of 4
- Total 1570 Points
You have two options at this point; the first is to either continue filling out your leader spots with a cauldron of blood and whatever else you want and some more troops or add Morathi – Khaine and leave and remove some of your other stuff. Personally, I would go with Morathi – Khaine as the model is incredible, and she has some fantastic rules. However, she is pretty expensive, though.
You could drop the Slaughter Queen and a unit of Warlocks and have enough points to bring her in, or potentially swap out the Sisters of Slaughter for slightly cheaper witch elves. With her in your army, you will be a mortal wound and range threat army and a powerhouse in the magic phase. Add in the sisters of Slaughter should anyone get close, and you have a well-rounded army to play with.
Gloomspite Gitz: Stampeding Squigalanche

Let’s look at how many points you get in the box:
- Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig: 110 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- 1 Loonboss on Mangler Squigs: 270 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- 1 Loonboss on Mangler Squigs: 270 Points, Leader 3 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- 10 Squig Hoppers: 180 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- 12 Squig Herd: 140 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- Total 970 Points
I love this squig army and think with the new book around the corner, there is potential for some squig shenanigans soon. Sticking with the squig theme, I want to add another unit of squig hoppers, a unit of boingrot bounderz, reinforce the squig herd, and then a couple of magic users to bolster your forces.
The endless spells for this army are solid, so we will use them to round out the force. Unfortunately, you will have to buy these models individually as there is no good start collecting that contains these.
Your final army will look something like this:
- Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig: 110 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- 1 Loonboss on Mangler Squigs: 270 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- 1 Loonboss on Mangler Squigs: 270 Points, Leader 3 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- Fungoid Cave Shaman: 95 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- Skragrott, the Loonking: 210 Points, Leader 5 of 6
- Madcap Shaman: 80 Points, Leader 6 of 6
- 10 Squig Hoppers: 180 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- 24 Squig Herd: 280 Points, Battleline 2 of 3 Reinforcement 1 of 4
- 10 Squig Hoppers: 180 Points
- 10 Boingrot Bounderz: 210 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 2 of 4
- Scuttletide: 70 Points, Endless Spell
- Mork’s Mighty Mushroom: 40 Points, Endless Spell
- Total 1995 Points
That’s a pretty squig-heavy list, which could be very formidable in the new book with some rule tweaks. In the past, the Mangler Squigs hit really hard, and even when you squig heard is running away, they are still dishing out mortal wounds.
Nighthaunt: Legion of Grief
Click here to get yours for less from these retailers: | Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games | Frontline Gaming | Games Workshop’s Store Link
- Lady Olynder Mortarch of Grief: 350 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- Black Coach: 335 Points, Behemoth 1 of 4
- 10 Bladeghast Revenants: 175 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Dreadscythe Harridans: 160 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Grimghast Reapers: 160 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- Total 1170 Points
This is an interesting bundle in that all these units are useful (minus the black coach, but it is so darn cool), but they need to be used in their respective sub-factions. But in using all of these, we will pick the Scarlet Doom to make your Revenants battleline and add more of them. A lot more, along with a Krulghast Cruciator for defense, spirit torment for resurrecting your ghosts, guardian of souls for additional resurrection if needed, and some magical supremacy in the hero phase.
With the last of the points, I am adding Ravenak’s Gnashing Jaws since you don’t have enough for a Purple Sun. This is still a slot machine army, as you need to get those charges in to get those mortal wounds, but with the army-wide retreat and charge ability, you can do this repeatedly as needed to whittle down your opponents.
Your final list will look like this:
- Lady Olynder Mortarch of Grief: 350 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- Krulghast Cruciator: 150 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Spirit Torment: 115 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- Guardian of Souls: 150 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- Black Coach: 335 Points, Behemoth 1 of 4
- 10 Bladeghast Revenants: 175 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- 10 Dreadscythe Harridans: 160 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Grimghast Reapers: 160 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- 20 Bladegheist Revenants: 350 Points, Battleline 3 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 4
- Ravenak’s Gnashing Jaws: 60 Points, Endless Spell
- Total 1995 Points
Orruk Warclans: Kruleboyz Swamp Lurkers
Click here to get yours for less from these retailers: | Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games | Frontline Gaming | Games Workshop’s Store Link
- Swampboss Skumdrekk: 290 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Gobsprakk the Mouth of Mork: 260 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- 3 Man Skewer Boltboyz: 120 Points, Battleline 1 of 3
- 10 Gutrippaz: 160 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- Total 830 Points
This is a good start to a Big Yellar Kruleboyz list, so we will choose that as our sub-faction to get two battlelines out of this box rather than one. To go as cheaply as possible, I would look for someone selling the Dominion half the Kruleboyz, which will net you a ton of models and are going cheap as the market is flooded with those boxes.
Then add in another 6 Boltboyz, and you have a solid starting army that looks like this at a pretty good value, with most of them going from two box sets. Your damage will mostly come from poisoned bolt boyz, but the Gutrippaz can also do some damage, especially when poisoned.
- Swampboss Skumdrekk: 290 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Gobsprakk the Mouth of Mork: 260 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof: 150 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- Murknob with Belcha banna: 95 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-grot: 105 Points, Leader 5 of 6
- Killaboss with Stab-grot: 110 Points, Leader 6 of 6
- 6 Man Skewer Boltboyz: 240 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 4
- 20 Gutrippaz: 320 Points, Battleline 2 of 3, Reinforcement 2 of 4
- 20 Hobgrot Slittaz: 160 Points, Battleline 3 of 3, Reinforcement 3 of 4
- 6 Man Skewer Boltboyz: 240 Points, Reinforcement 4 of 4
- Total 1970 Points
AoS Holiday Battleforces Skaven: The Verminous Host
Click here to get yours for less from these retailers: | Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games | Frontline Gaming | Games Workshop’s Store Link
- Plague Priest on Plague Furnace: 335 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Warlock Bombardier: 115 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Grey Seer: 100 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- 3 Stormfiends: 320 Points, No Unit Type
- 40 Clanrats: 200 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 20 Plague Monks: 180 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 2 of 3
- 20 Plague Monks: 180 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 3 of 3
- Total 1455 Points
This has quite a bit of models in a single box set, coming in at over half the total you need for a 2000-point army; however, to get the plague monks to become battleline, we are going to need to focus on another Skaven Nurgle hero so that they both count as battleline.
A great option would be one of the big baddies themselves, a Verminlord Corruptor Then, for a final touch of Nurgle, we will add a Plague claw to your army.
So, it looks something like this:
- Plague Priest on Plague Furnace: 335 Points, Leader 1 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Warlock Bombardier: 115 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Grey Seer: 100 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- Verminlord Corruptor: 350 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- 3 Stormfiends: 320 Points, No Unit Type
- 40 Clanrats: 200 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 20 Plague Monks: 180 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 2 of 3
- 20 Plague Monks: 180 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 3 of 3
- Plagueclaw: 135 Points, Artillery 1 of 4
- Total 1940 Points
With this army’s unit sizes, it will be a little difficult to move stuff around using the Gnawholes, but it is still possible. It is a different take from the Stormfiend spam lists you’re used to seeing, though it does require a lot of painting (hat is a lot of Rats.)
Only needing two more kits outside the main box is nice, so once you churn through the main box, you’re close to the finish line. For the final 60 points, add on an endless spell, I kind of like the Horrghast here to stack with the Plagueclaw for a bravery bomb that could catch your opponent off guard.
Stormcast Eternals: Thunderstrike Spearhead
Click here to get yours for less from these retailers: | Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games | Frontline Gaming | Games Workshop’s Store Link
- Knight Relictor: 120 Points, Leader 1 of 6, No Unit Type
- Knight Draconis: 300 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- 3 Annihilators: 180 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Vanquishers: 220 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 10 Vigilors: 340 Poi,nts, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 2 of 3
- 1 Stormdrake Guard: 170 Points, No Unit Type
- Total 1160 Points
At over half your army, this is a great starting point to kick off your Stormcast Eternals army list. The cheapest way to move this into a 2000-point army would be to find a Dominion half which is super cheap on eBay or Facebook marketplace groups as the market is flooded with them.
They will also fill out the entire other half of your army, making it look something like this.
- Knight Relictor: 120 Points, Leader 1 of 6, No Unit Type
- Knight Draconis: 300 Points, Leader 2 of 6
- Knight Arcanum: 120 Points, Leader 3 of 6
- Knight Vexillor with Banner of Apotheosis: 160 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- Yndrasta: 280 Points, Leader 5 of 6
- Lord – Important: 175 Points, Leader 6 of 6
- 3 Annihilators: 180 Points, No Unit Type
- 3 Annihilators: 180 Points, No Unit Type
- 3 Praetors: 145 Points, No Unit Type
- 10 Vanquishers: 220 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 10 Vigilors: 340 Points, No Unit Type, Reinforcement 2 of 3
- 5 Vindictors: 130 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- 5 Vindictors: 130 Points, Battleline 3 of 3
- 1 Stormdrake Guard: 170 Points, No Unit Type
- Total 2495 Points
These two boxes give you a ton of options to mess around with, and it’s super cheap. A quick eBay search found that the Dominion half is going for about 40-50 bucks shipped on the current marketplace. This will let you play around with your army and tweak it to suit your needs, then add bits and pieces here and there as needed.
It may not be optimized, but with the new Generals Handbook right around the corner, it will let you tweak lists and mess around with the various sub-factions until you find something that suits your place style.
AoS Holiday Battleforces Sylvaneth: Revenant Wargrove
Click here to get yours for less from these retailers: | Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games | Frontline Gaming | Games Workshop’s Store Link
- Drycha Hamadreth: 335 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- Spirit of Durthu: 370 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Treelord Ancient: 360 Points, Leader 3 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- 10 Tree Revenants: 220 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 10 Dryads (6 more come with the box): 100 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- Total 1385 Points
Coming in at well over half your army, this is a great starting point for any Sylvaneth army. The big trees and Drycha are used in most lists, while the Tree Revenants are a very good mobile battleline unit for this army. The Dryads are not often used, but they are cheap battlelines and can be a good anvil or screen unit for your opponent to chew through.
To add on, I think all you need is a Vanguard Sylventh box which will get you to the 2000 points. If you choose Oakenbrow as your sub-faction, you can build the Treelord and use him as your third battleline, or if you want to go a different one, you can split up the; while Revenants and get your battleline groups that way.
You can also choose how to build your hunters that come with the box; while I have always been a fan of the great bows, the scythes and swords are cool options as well.
Here is what your final army will look like with these two boxes.
- Drycha Hamadreth: 335 Points, Leader 1 of 6
- Spirit of Durthu: 370 Points, Leader 2 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4
- Treelord Ancient: 360 Points, Leader 3 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4
- Branchwych: 130 Points, Leader 4 of 6
- Treelord: 260 Points, No Unit Type, Behemoth 3 of 4
- 10 Tree Revenants: 220 Points, Battleline 1 of 3, Reinforcement 1 of 3
- 10 Dryads (6 more come with the box): 100 Points, Battleline 2 of 3
- 5 Tree Revenants: 110 Points, Battleline 3 of 3
- 3 Kurnoth Hunter with Greatbows: 230 Points, No Unit Type
- Total 2115 Points
If you build the Treelord as another Spirit of Durthu, or Treelord Ancient, the point value for this army is even more; you need to think about how you want to run this army before you build your box. But the value of the two boxes is no joke; it is slightly off-putting, however, since you will need to go out and buy all the Wyldwood Trees needed for the army, which will cost you a bit.
There you have it; the cheapest way I can find to expand any Battleforces presents you may or may not get yourself this holiday season. Hey, I won’t tell anyone if it is a gift to yourself.
