GW Just Made a HUGE Change Right Under Our Noses

Games-Workshop-retail-trend-arrow-store-wal-horGames Workshop just made a huge change right under our noses, and it probably does not bode well for the rest of 2023!

The Slaves to Darkness pricing took us a little by surprise in a few key areas, and it looks like GW might be prepping people for a bigger price increase. Or, they could simply be raising the prices on this release.

However, if you remember, GW put out a giant price increase on over 3000 items right around February 2022, and maybe this is just the precursor for that…

GW Just Made a HUGE Change Under Our Noses

Let’s start with the biggest change first that we noticed.

Vanguard Slaves to Darkness

The new Vanguard box is $10 more this time, which hits the old price of the 40k Combat Patrol boxes before their increase in 2022. When Games Workshop came out with the Vanguard boxes (changing from Start Collecting), they were all $130. However, this one had the price raised to $140, and not really for much reason (it’s not like there is more value in there now).

GW also didn’t say anything about the change in their normal cheeky manner. This is a big deal, as from now on, we could expect to see all the boxes be $140, and who knows, maybe GW will go back and change all the existing ones to $140 in February.

Also, when you look at the value, this really doesn’t have any more value than other boxes, and with the higher price, it has even less.

WTF is Going On With Dice Now?

Slaves to Darkness Dice Set

Next up is the dice. They were $35 just last week, and this week they are $40. While this isn’t too crazy, it’s never good to see price increases hit, especially with a release right before February. It really feels like GW is just prepping people for the price increases across the line, and from the looks of it, the dice will be $40 from now on.

But wait, there is more.  The Chaos Black Legion Dice set that was $35 actually has five fewer dice in it now while being the large 16mm size than these Slaves to Darkness ones that are 12mm sized.

Confused? So are we.

That Daemon Prince Though

Daemon PrinceTo end, let’s talk about the new Daemon Prince which is now priced at $80! While it’s a new mini and pretty cool, this is basically a 33% price increase from the previous model!

This is just insane when you really think about it. Again, yes, it’s cooler and more impressive than the previous mini, but this is wild.

For comparison, check out other AoS models around the same price now

Sure we get it; this kit makes a version for Warhammer and Age of Sigmar, so it’s going to be desirable for a number of hobbyists.

However, in some ways, it’s almost like you don’t want Games Workshop to update minis if the price will jump up so much. We guess this gives the Chaos Slaves To Darkness army box more value, but other than that, we’re not sure jumps like this are a good thing…

We thought it wouldn’t go over a $70 retail price when it was released, but we were wrong on that one!

Are these stealth increases or the new baseline leading into another big February price increase?
