New Horus Heresy Space Wolves Rules & Rumors Revealed

space-wolves-horus-heresy-rulesGW revealed some Horus Heresy Space Wolves rules, but we’ve also seen a ton of rumors for their legion rules as well- here is the latest!

With the release of the starter and new edition imminent, it’s time for GW to start revealing rules. This time around, they are focusing on the Space Wolves, but we’ve also seen some Horus Heresy playtest rumors for them.

So while they might change a little, the playtest versions have been pretty accurate so far.

Warhammer Community showed off some new legion-specific rules; let’s check them out!

New Horus Heresy Space Wolves Rules & Rumors Revealed

Space Wolves Rules

Like a pack of over-eager huskies, these brutes barrel into their enemies, colliding with an eagerness that borders on the sadistic. This Bestial Savagery overwhelms most foes, giving the victorious Space Wolves plenty of epic combat yarns to spin at their post-battle celebrations.

Being able to advance, shoot, and charge with all your infantry is just super strong! Not much else to say about that, and then other units get +1 WS, so get them in combat, and you’ll be happy.

Space Wolves Rules 2

Of course, sometimes your prey isn’t so eager to flee – particularly when their preening, finely-dressed leaders are standing around barking orders. Fortunately, the Emperor’s executioners have plenty of experience decapitating enemy forces. If your Warlord’s a Crown Breaker, he’ll find it easy to take out enemy characters – whether hacking them up or gunning them down – and shrug off grievous wounds to claim the glory of a melee kill. Even better, his buddies get the same benefit!

Getting an extra reaction is strong, so getting a 5+ FNP against other characters is just another bonus!

Space Wolves Rules 3

The superstitious sons of Fenris loathe psychic sorcery and would obviously never fight alongside a Librarian witch. Fortunately, they can call on the eminently wise Casters of the Runes to harness the elemental power of their home world’s heart, shrouding their brothers in howling storms. No witchcraft here, no sir! If only Magnus could have been so sensible.

If you fail the check, you get an immediate Perils, but a 3+ shrouded is quite strong!

Leman Russ Rules

Space Wolves Rules 4They didn’t show off rules, but we’ve seen playtest rules, so take them with a grain of salt as they could change, but look pretty good.

Legion Specific Space Wolves Horus Heresy Rules Rumors

Space Wolves Rules

The first warlord trait gains an additional wound at the end of an assault phase in which they inflict at least one unsaved wound on an enemy model, if they are at full wounds it instead confers +1 Str on attacks until the end of the turn. It’s interesting but won’t help until that second round of combat most times. The second one is quite interesting as all Space Wolves models gain +1 Str if they successfully charge an enemy unit that turn, however it is once per game, so be sure to get off a ton of charges that turn! Space Wolves Rules 2Aether-Rune Armor is super cool as it not only gives you a 2+ save, but also increases the wounds, and gives you Adamantium will!

Space Wolves Rules 3The upgraded unit champions are a cool idea as they gain the counterattack rule!

Space Wolves Rules 4As you would expect, they have a decent statline, special rules, and access to a lot of wargear!

Space Wolves Rules 5Being able to issue challenges with your normal models is actually really cool, and if you can win, then you will be adding a lot to the combat!

Here are other rumors and rules we’ve seen:

  • New Legion Trait: any Legiones Astartes: Space Wolves unit which chooses to Run may still make a shooting attack in the shooting phase (resolved as Snap Shots) and may still declare a Charge in the assault phase – any such units which cannot Run (e.g Cataphractii terminators) instead gain +1 WS on any turn in which they Charge, even if it is a Disordered Charge
  • Unique Reaction: once per battle if any enemy model starts its movement within 12” of at least one Legiones Astartes: Space Wolves unit, a single such unit can make a move equal to or less than its highest Initiative value in inches & then make a charge against the triggering unit (charge is resolved immediately, the assault continues as normal in the assault phase)
  • Jarl Praetor Upgrade (+10 points): gains Counterattack, may also be given the Skirmish subtype at no additional cost
  • Pack Thane Consul (+10 points): gains Counterattack, may also be given the Skirmish subtype at no additional cost, cannot take a Bike/ Jetbike
  • Speaker of the Dead Consul (+65 points): consul & any unit they join gain the Hatred (Everything!) & Stubborn special rules, consul also gains a master-crafted power maul
  • Caster of Runes Consul (+45 points): gains the Psyker subtype, must select one of 4 psychic disciplines, may take a psychic hood for +20 points
  • “Grey Stalker” Unit (may just be Grey Slayer Alterations): unit with Relentless, Counterattack & Heart of the Legion special rules, chainswords & bolt pistols (any may take bolters/ swap chainswords for power weapons), one in 5 can take a special weapon.

Well, if you look at the 3rd warlord Trait, it is actually the one GW revealed, meaning the rest of these rumors are probably pretty accurate. As always, though, they could change by the time the final book comes out, as these are from a playtest edition.
