By Rob Baer | October 13th, 2020 | Categories: Warhammer 40k, Warhammer 40k Rumors

new-gw-codex-releasesNew GW previews are this Saturday, but what else is out there floating around still on the way for 9th Edition 40k in 2020 and 2021!

What could the next GW Preview be? Let’s take a look at the clues from Warhammer Community and what releases we still haven’t seen yet…

Gridiron & Glory Preview

There will be plenty more Warhammer 40,000 content to look forward to as well, and even a new mega-preview next weekend! Here’s a hint at what it’s about…

Catch all the latest news from the preview here on warhammer-community.com from 2pm (BST) on Saturday the 17th of October. You can also follow the live preview on twitch.tv/warhammer from 1.45pm (BST)

Gridiron leads us to believe its probably something to do with Blood Bowl, but they did confirm that there would be some 40k as well. Back in August GW confirmed that the 3rd edition of Blood Bowl was on the way.

Gridiron & Glory Preview:

We first saw images of a 3rd Edition Blood Bowl making the rounds in August. It was then followed up by Warhammer Community giving everyone full pictures of the models and more.

Hours of playtesting and feedback from many of the best players in the world have gone into crafting the very best edition of Blood Bowl to date – putting into practice more than 30 years of game development. At its heart, it’s the same Blood Bowl you all know and love, but polished to perfection to improve the gaming experience for everyone.

A first look at the cover art for the new Blood Bowl starter box set shows what looks like Orc against the Bogenhafen Barons, we’ll be taking a closer look at those Imperials on the left in just a minute.

blood bowl 3 core bookThe rules team has added new tactical depth to the game both on and off the field. You can expect enhancements to core mechanics like passing, alongside campaign elements such as injuries, experience, and spending those all-important Star Player Points.

Taking a closer look at some of the Bogenhafen Barons, they’re absolutely decked out in detail too!

New Previews: What’s On the Way For 9th Edition 40k?

If you’ve seen all the releases that have been revealed for 9th Edition in the last batch of online previews, you know there’s a busy year in store for codex releases extending into 2021. But reading between the lines of the previews, the new books could also be accompanied by a splash release of a new model or two for each faction. Here’s that we’re talking about.

next four 2020 codexesWe’ll be taking a quick look at each codex that was given the spotlight in the previews as well as some books that could be appearing sometime in 2021. With that said, let’s start with Blood Angels.

blood angels 9th edition codex

blood angels 9th edition codex 2While the previews didn’t show any new Blood Angel models, we do have the codex cover to go off of. If you look closely, there’s the Sanguinor and what looks to be some Sanguinary Guard flying above the rest of the Blood Angels. On that note, all of the Blood Angels on the ground are all Primaris (including Mephiston).

Because the Sanguinor’s armor is so unique and the Sanguinary Guard are so far in the backdrop, it’s difficult to tell if they’re actually Primaris. However, with the obvious trend of everything switching over to Primaris, it looks like we could be getting some upgraded Sanguinor/Sanguinary Guard in the future.

sanguinor loreYeah, he’s past due for an update…

Death Guard

Lord of VirrulenceNext, there’s the Death Guard which have already had two models showcased. It looks like there’s some kind of Plague Furnace terrain piece as well as the new Lord of Virulence. No stats on these guys, but as for the Lord of Virulence, he’s got what looks to be a double-barrel Plaguespitter and a Power Fist.

Space Wolves

9th edition space wolves codexFor the Space Wolves, right in the center of the codex frame is what looks like some kind of character with a double-headed axe and wolf shawl. This model doesn’t exist right now and it’s probably not by chance that he’s in the center of the frame with the most lighting affects on him.

It’s hare to tell what Logan Grimnar and theVlka Fenryka, but if a Primaris Ragnar is any indication, then chances are another of their mighty characters could see primaris status soon.

Deathwatch

deathwatch 9th edition codexFor the Deathwatch, we can see a cover full of Primaris. What’s interesting is the wargear involved. There’s what looks to be an Intercessor with a Deathwatch Storm Shield stonewalling some enemy fire.

That’s leading us to believe that there could be a Deathwatch Primaris Veteran kit in store for the future by the time these guys get their codex. Nothing is confirmed of course, but the artwork is definitely suggestive.

What About Codexes Set For 2021?

Dark Eldar hor walWell, we know that codex support is still going to be a thing in 2021. GW left the fans with this comment:

Dark Angels fans won’t have to wait much longer – your codex supplement will be on its way early next year, along with the first xenos codex of 2021.

So what could be some models/bits that we’ve already seen that may make their first appearance in 2021?

Dark Eldar

Will the first new Xenos book release after Necrons be Dark Eldar? Well, we know of at leases one new model out there that is on the way for them.

lelith hesperax 2For the Dark Eldar, it looks like Lelith Hesperax is going to be the next model in line for a makeover. We’ve seen some angles of a new model that just look like a more updated version of the current Lelith Hesperax model. On top of that, the models both share the same insignia.

Orks

ork model preview 2For Orks, it looks like there’s some kind of Bowser-looking dude that may be coming eventually.

Sisters of Battle

sister of battle new modelThere’s also this new Sisters model with Plasma Pistol and Ecclesiarchy Rosary on the way at some point.

Adeptus Mechanicus

admech new model

admech new model 2Finally, there’s this Ad Mech duder that looks to be another coming Tech-Priest of some kind. He’s got some kind of command rod in his left hand as well as something strapped to his back.

There’s no denying that there’s a lot on the table for 40k. But signs are looking pretty good that GW could be releasing a model or two whenever the time comes to bring a faction up to speed via codex (plus dice, datacards, and other potential accessories).

What do you think we will see factions get model-wise in the future? Does GW need to start updating Chapter-specific units to Primaris like Sanguinary Guard, DA Knights, etc?
